Sandra Mayse began working as an administrative secretary and secretary to the City Manager of Forest City. That was 36 years ago. The last 21 years at City Hall she was City Clerk. Of her job, Sandra says "I loved it! It was an honor and privilege to keep the towns records". This lady definitely looked forward to going to work every day. Asked about memorable moments, she said "the frequent calls from citizens that offered thanks for keeping Forest City so clean and the beautiful displays of flowers throughout the year". The explosion of lights downtown at Christmastime always brought expressions of thanks year after year. It was a time when Forest City became "the city of lights". Asked if she would do it again, her reply was "definitely, my job was a blessing." Her last day proved to be "a lot of fun!" A special luncheon was held at the Forest City Clubhouse where it was proclaimed Sandra P. Mayse Day in the town. Family and friends were there to support Sandra on this special day. "It was a very nostalgic time for me". Now in retirement, Sandra looks forward to helping her husband Ron, who became a farmer about four years ago. Ron started raising South African Boer Goats. He has thirty goats, one lama, two miniature donkeys, and two calfs. She looks forward to traveling and competing in showing their goats. In addition to the shows, she also says that she will probably be cutting the grass on their 12 acres. Her most joyous time will be spent with her two grandchildren, twin girls Kinsley and Kailee, who attend Chase Middle School. For her outstanding service to the community, we wish Sandra Mayse many blessings and a great retirement. Main St., Forest City 828-245-1976 In 1990 Ginger Dancy went to work at Rutherford Regional Hospital (now Rutherford Regional Health System) as the Community Relations Assistant. In 1998 she was made the Director of Volunteer Services supervising 175 adults and, every summer, 100 teen volunteers. Ginger says: "It was so rewarding and every day was different". Supervising the teens each summer was a way to influence and create future career opportunities in health care. Ginger considers the pet therapy program as her greatest achievement. She started the program in 2004 when a lady from New Hampshire approached her about starting a program. She wrote the policy and got approval from the medical staff and administration. As a result, three certified pet therapy dogs visit staff and patients every Wednesday. It has become the highlight of every week. One of her favorite dogs is named Reynard who was rescued and then trained. Reynard arrives weekly with his photo I.D. and badge ready to socialize. She told pictured with her husband, Rutherfordton Mayor Jimmy Dancy, and Cindy Buck, CEO of everyone: "I just think we are the shinning star in the Rutherford Regional. community as a health care facility." Rutherford Regional Auxiliary has received a five star rating for the last 14 years. "They are there for all the right reasons." The best part of this story is that Ginger Dancy may have retired, but she is coming back to the hospital as a volunteer along with her husband Jimmy, who is the Mayor of Rutherfordton. Their decision is a confirmation that the hospital had the perfect person to head volunteer services for all those years. If you see Ginger, make sure you thank her and wish her well. She's a very special lady and the community is better off because of her. I'm sure she will be around on Wednesdays to welcome Reynard! Watch what you want Visit our office for a FREE demonstration!
