with this issue, we celebrate the 10th
anniversary of theburg.
we distributed the first issue on a bitter
cold night just after new Year's Day in 2009.
At the time, I never could have imagined
that, a decade later, we'd be here, stronger
than ever, transformed into a publication and
news source that, while harrisburg-based,
reaches so widely, from Lancaster to carlisle,
from York to newport.
Indeed, our audience has grown
exponentially as has, I believe, our reputation
for publishing a high quality, informative,
creative and attractive news product.
so many people have played important
roles in our growth: my fellow founding
partners, our publisher, our staff, our
community supporters, our advertisers, our
contributors and our readers.
Above all, I would like to thank the people
of greater harrisburg for embracing us so
warmly. I'm a very lucky guy. Few people
have jobs that allow them to impact and
contribute to their communities each day.
the comments and feedback that I receive
are overwhelmingly positive and, even
when they're critical, we try to take them
constructively and learn from them.
many wonderful things lie in the year ahead.
of course, we plan to continue to publish
our beautiful monthly magazine, to report
important community news each day and
to grow 3rd in the burg. In addition, we will
sponsor numerous events, including the
2019 harrisburg mural Festival. Importantly,
we also plan to launch a reader membership
program, which will finally answer a question
we hear frequently: "how can I support
theburg?"
As you may know, the news business is
a very difficult one, particularly for local
journalism. but I am confident that, with the
help of our community, theburg has a bright
future indeed, and that, 10 years in, we're
only beginning to realize our promise and
potential.
