FAVORITE Cookies: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and water. Combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle. On a lightly floured surface, roll out to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut with 2-1/2-in. cookie cutters dipped in flour. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm. Remove to wire racks to cool. Frosting: In a small bowl, combine frosting ingredients; beat until smooth. Transfer to a plastic bag. Cut a small hole in a corner of the bag; pipe frosting onto cookies. Yields: 5 dozen. Gingerbread Cookies 40 Oreos 1 cup cream cheese, softened 2 cups white chocolate, melted Using a food processor, pulse the Oreos into fine crumbs. Remove 1/4 cup of the crumbs and set aside. Mix the cream cheese into the remaining crumbs. The mixture will be sticky. Roll the mixture into 1 inch balls, and place them onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Freeze the balls for 30 minutes. Dip each ball in the melted chocolate, place back on the baking tray, and sprinkle with the reserved Oreo crumbs. Refrigerate for 1 hour, or until firm. Keep refriger- ated for up to 5 days. Keep in the refrigerator and serve chilled, so the chocolate won't melt. White Chocolate Oreo Truffles 40 Ritz crackers Creamy peanut butter 8 ounces white almond bark Make sandwiches with Ritz Cracker and peanut butter for filling. Melt the almond bark according to package directions Dip each cookie in the melted chocolate, covering it entirely. Place on wax paper. Put in the refrigerator to cool and set. Store in air-tight container for up to one week. White Chocolate Ritz Cracker Cookies 2 cups white sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup margarine 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 pinch salt 1/2 cup chunky peanut butter 3 cups quick cooking oats In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, cocoa, milk and margarine. Bring to a boil, stirring occa- sionally. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and stir in the vanilla, salt, peanut butter and oats. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Allow cookies to cool for at least 1 hour. Store in an airtight container. No Bake Cookies Preheat oven to 350° F. In the bowl of your mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth, at least 3 minutes Beat in extracts and egg. In a separate bowl: combine baking powder and salt with flour and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients. The dough will be very stiff. If it becomes too stiff for your mixer turn out the dough onto a countertop surface. Wet your hands and finish off kneading the dough by hand. DO NOT CHILL DOUGH. Divide into workable batch- es, roll out onto a floured surface and cut. You want these cookies to be on the thicker side (closer to 1/4 inch rather than 1/8). Bake for 6 minutes for soft cookies or 7-8 minutes for crisper cookies. Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack. NOTES: If you must chill the dough, leave it on the counter for 10 minutes before rolling or work the dough with your hands for a few minutes. Lemon flavoring may be substituted for the almond flavoring. Truffles can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Best Sugar Cookies 1 cup butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 cup molasses 1/4 cup water 5 cups all-purpose flour 2-1/2 tsp ground ginger 1-1/2 tsp baking soda 1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground allspice 1/4 tsp salt FROSTING: 3-3/4 cups confectioners' sugar 1/4 cup water 1-1/2 tsp light corn syrup 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract Makes 3 dozen cookies 1 cup unsalted butter 1 cup granulated white sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp almond extract 1 egg 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 3 cups all purpose flour RUTHERFORD WEEKLY Published by FIRST MEDIA, INC FIRST MEDIA, INC "Creating Business For People" ® Rutherford Weekly's publisher and its advertisers are not responsible or liable for misprints, typographical errors, misin- formation herein contained. EXT, FOREST CITY Friendship Friendship (NAPS)—Many people fi nd that when the temperature falls, so does their motivation and the frequency of their workouts. But it shouldn't. Research has shown that working out through the cold winter months strengthens the immune system to help fi ght off those cold weather blues and illnesses. Knowing how to stay motivated and what to do to keep your fi tness routine challenging is key: Staying on track and meeting your fi tness goals during the cold season can give you a jump start on setting higher goals and staying active through spring and summer. Fortunately, advances in technology and social media have made it easier to add variety and personalize your workouts. Online videos make it easier than ever to customize workouts to fi t your individual needs and goals, as well as fi nd inspiration to keep up your hard work regardless of where you might be in your fi tness journey. To help, Tom Holland, exercise physiologist and Bowfl ex fi tness advisor, shares these tips on how to diversify your workouts to maintain your motivation while maximizing your results. 1. Shake up your routine. Many people do the exact same workout every time, performing the same exercises in the same order. This is one major reason you stop seeing results— your body has become accustomed to the stress. A simple yet extremely effective way to overcome a plateau, or avoid it in the fi rst place, is to simply change the order of your exercises. This "pre-fatigues" your body in a new and different way, keeping it challenged and the results coming. 2. Enjoy the great outdoors. Studies show that you can burn more calories, strengthen your endurance, and combat the winter blues by working out in the cold. If you decide to challenge Mother Nature with an outdoor workout, make sure you dress appropriately with layers and stay hydrated even though you may not feel like you need it. 3. Work smarter. The new Max Intelligence platform, available with the Bowfl ex Max Trainer M6 and M8 cardio machines, uses artifi cial intelligence (AI) to analyze your workouts, and automatically adjusts your fi tness plan to help you continue making progress towards your goals. Through an initial fi tness assessment and predictive analytics, Max tracks and collects data from your previous sessions, customizes your workouts every day and provides spoken encouragement to keep up the good work. In addition, Max can assess your fi tness data to serve up appropriate trainer-led videos and educational content to provide instruction and motivation. 4. Mix it up. Find fun videos to inspire new workouts. There are many available from certifi ed professionals. Trying something new can help challenge your muscles in different ways. It also helps build your mental stamina to keep you sharp and focused as you concentrate on remembering the new movements and order of the routine. Step outside your comfort zone—you might just discover a new favorite way to work out.
