Postcards this week at Sweets Col- umn Winslow, IN 47598 were none, but we did get a Christmas card in the old mailbox. The envelope and the card has the same picture of a fireplace with the logs afire, the mantle draped in pine tree garland and a stocking hung with pres- ents and candles of red lit up. There is a Christmas tree all decked out with col- ored ornaments of red, blue, gold, and silver along with a garland of popcorn. Presents under the tree and a puppy of yellow holding a present by the bow over the black and white kitty who is about to swat at the present. The card reads: "Sweets, May this Christmas bring you special times with family and friends. Janie Tor- mohlen." Janie, we also wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and we love the card with animals and our first Christ- mas card this year. Winslow Patoka River was half full, but with the rain coming in it will rise a bit. As you drive through Winslow on Main Street you will see the wreaths hung on the lamp post and lit up. More and more yards have begun decorat- ing, and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I started decorating the corner lot with Christmas items, and I have acquired some items like some large candy canes and a Santa in a sleigh with one reindeer. I also had got two big lollipops from the Winslow Flea Market. Since Winslow has set up the Winter Wonderland, we set up a 14 piece Nativity set plus candles and an- other angel that you all can see along with the Winslow Lions, Winslow Beautification, and the Winslow Fire Dept. displays on December 8 and 15 with no charge. Anyway we got some history on the Christmas items and who had them before as, it was Marvin Snyder, then Jr. and Irene McDonald, and now the Sweets. There are more items that are not mentioned, but I'm pleased, and thanks to those who had them before me. I have a small Santa I always put out from Grandma Laura and a "Santa stops here" sign from Mike and Deb- bie Dillman. Winslow Town Hall is decked out to welcome in Christmas, and while there I found out that the Winslow Library will be receiving Letters to Santa start- ing last Monday, so to all the children who have their letter ready to send to Santa, bring them to the Winslow Li- brary. Last Saturday, Dec. 1, was the Winslow Christmas Parade, where in the forecast there was rain, wind, and maybe more, but when the line- up and the parade began, we had sun- shine, blue sky and some white fluffy clouds appeared. The Christmas Pa- rade was small, but we all had loads of fun to bring in the Christmas Season. The kids were plenty to cheer in the season and see Santa and Mrs. Claus riding in a real (made) sleigh. Winslow Girl Scouts walked, the Lions roared, Don Bolin and his Pontiac, a Free- dom and Fire church float, Winslow and Spurgeon Fire Dept. trucks, the Sweets, Brian and Daisy Moyes, and son where there was life size Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Winslow Mouse House with the Beautification Committee were wrap- ping gifts for several children who bought gifts for their parents and loved ones. Santa and Mrs. Claus were there to speak with each child who wasn't too shy, and hot chocolate was served. The Winslow Winter Wonderland had several come in and view the dis- plays set up for all to enjoy, even with the dripping effect of a rippling stream. Homemade hot cocoa was enjoyed as they viewed the Christmas items set up by the Winslow Lions, Beautifica- tion Committee, and the Fire Dept. On Dec. 8 & 15 from 3-6 p.m. you can come in and view them for yourselves and Santa and Mrs. Claus would love to hear what the children and maybe even the parents would like to have on Christmas Day under the tree. I would like to tell all our stars who showed up and had loads of fun at the three events put on in our small town of Winslow, We appreciate you all for being there to start off the Christmas Season with family and friends. The homemade sleigh that Santa and Mrs. Claus rode in was designed and assembled by Debbie and Dale Lamb. We got to enjoy the parade as Laura drove the truck with me sitting in the pas- senger seat and Norm and Kyana with a Christmas dis- play throwing out the candy. Winslow and other areas around the tristate woke up to heavy dense fog where schools were on a delay, Pike Co. had a two hour delay. As the lights begin to dim on this weeks ramblings, we wish all of our stars an enjoy- able Christmas Season, and don't overwork yourself but have fun in whatever you do. Keep an eye on family and friends; slow down and see all the wonders around you; then as I always say, "Smile, Wave, and Say Hi to every- one you see this week."
