Desafortunadamente no pude sumarme a esa pequeña fiesta anticipada desde hace mucho, y que hubiese sido un momento fantástico para compartir con mis otrora compañeros de aula sobre nuestras vidas profesionales en los últimos 30 años. En mi caso ha sido de una intensidad total; de simple periodista, como corresponsal internacio- nal cubriendo elecciones presidenciales, visitas papales, violencia, caídas bursátiles, juegos olím- picos, y cuanta noticia de turno caía en las manos, luego como reportero del diario HOY del Chicago Tribune y como empresario de la industria. Lo más desafiante, sin embargo, ha sido justa- mente estos últimos 11 años, luego de la fundar en 2007 Negocios Now y enfrascarme en una feliz lucha fratricida entre el Clemente periodista y el Clemente emprendedor, dando al traste con una publicación cuyo alcance jamás imaginé. El periodista que no cesa de buscar con per- sistencia una buena nota de negocios latinos, y el pequeño empresario, como otro cualquiera, detrás de las oportunidades para crecer un nego- cio saltando miles de obstáculos en aras de llevar su empresa al siguiente nivel. Y en esa cautivadora dinámica apareció el premio de "Latino Publisher del Año", un reconocimiento que también pongo en las manos de la comunidad de negocios latinos de Chicago que abraza la causa de Negocios Now; de nuestros patrocinadores, sin los cuales no hubiéramos podido estar contando esta historia, y de mis compañeros de aulas que jamás dejaron de soñar y abonar las ansias de cre- cer profesionalmente. I must confess that I felt something of nos- talgia when I saw the photo of my univer- sity group last summer celebrating three decades of their journalistic careers at a house in Havana. In my case, it has been total intensity, first as an international correspondent covering pre- sidential elections, papal visits, violence, stock market crashes, Olympic games, newly in the United States with a wide variety experience as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune's HOY news- paper, and finally as an industry entrepreneur. The most challenging, however, has been precisely these last 11 years, after founding in 2007 Negocios Now and engaging in a bitter- sweet struggle between Clemente, the journa- list, and Clemente, the businessman, breaking the record with a publication whose scope I'd never imagined. The journalist who per- sistently searches for a great Latino business story and, the entrepreneur who is on the lookout for opportunities to grow a business to take to the next level. In the midst of this captivating dynamic, the Latino Publisher of the Year award appeared. It is a recognition that I also place in the hands of the Latino business community that embraces the cause of Negocios Now; of our sponsors, without whom we would not be telling this story, and my classmates who never stopped dreaming and daily strive to grow professio- nally.
