The Press-Dispatch School Wednesday, November 14, 2018 C- 11 First grader Annabeth Shimer got her eyes ex- amined by Holly Shoultz from Shoultz Eye Care. Each year Dr. and Mrs. Shoultz spend a morning screening first graders. Above and all below: The Petersburg Fire Department along with the help from surrounding depart- ments (Union Community, Patoka Township and Jefferson Township) had a contest and the winners were taken to school by the local fire departments. The winners of the contest were: Baylin Davis, Joce- lyn Blemker-Like, Sophi Wilson, Jude Fretwell, Taylor Russell, Paisley Willis, Ellie Arnold, Brayden Fry- rear, Jacob Smitson, Kylie Meyer, Devon Beadles and Addyson McDowell. Left: The Pike County Teachers Association recently hosted a Halloween Candy Drive to donate to the Deaconess Cancer Center in Evansville. Taste buds are affected by chemotherapy and it is recommend- ed that patients eat candy during treatment to combat the side effects of treatment. Also, the candy is something comforting during such a stressful time. Members of the PCTA collected 77 pounds of can- dy to be given to the Cancer Center. Pike Central MENU Thursday, November 15: Stuffed crust cheese pizzas or pepperoni sticks, crinkle cut fries and tossed salad. Friday, November 16: Beef taco meat, nacho cheese sauce, tortilla chips, salsa and refried beans. Monday, November 19: Chicken sandwich or pork chop sandwich, seasoned fries and tossed salad. Tuesday, November 20 : Turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, roll, green beans and a sugar cookie. Wednesday, November 21: NO SCHOOL - Thanks- giving Menu subject to change. Milk choices offered daily. As- sorted fruits and veggies of- fered daily. THE SANTA SWITCH The Student Govern- ment will be hosting a San- ta Switch dance for all high school students on Saturday, December 8 from 8 -11p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Tickets will be sold at lunch on November 15 -16, 29 - 30 and December 5. Tick- ets are $5 per person or $ 8 per couple. ($7 per student at the door) Students from other schools are allowed to attend but permission slips must be filled out for these students. Petersburg Elementary MENU Thursday, November 15: Country fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, but- tered corn and diced pears. Friday, November 16: Chicken sandwich, crispy seasoned fries, green beans and an apple. Monday, November 19: Two cheesy breadsticks, marinara sauce steamed cauliflower and tropical fruit. Tuesday, November 20 : Thanksgiving Lunch - Tur- key and gravy, mashed po- tatoes, buttered peas, roll, fruit and holiday cake. Wednesday, November 21: NO SCHOOL - Thanks- giving Break. CALENDER Early Release dates–Nov. 14 and 28 Spell bowl Practices man- datory dates–Nov. 13 and 14 after school till 4:30 p.m. Robotics Practice dates– Nov. 15, 19, 26 and 29 after school till 5 p.m. Turkey Disguise! –Time to dress up Tom the Turkey so he can hide from the farmer and not become Thanksgiv- ing Dinner! Kindergarten students will be doing this home project in November. Turkey patterns will be sent home the 1st of the month. Send in Tom the Turkey as soon as he is in disguise and it will be displayed in the Kindergarten hallway. Nov. 12-16 –American Ed- ucation Week, there will be activities throughout the week. Nov. 15 –Spell Bowl Com- petition at Cedar Crest In- termediate School in Hunt- ingburg. Nov. 16 –Second grade will celebrate Mickey Mouse's birthday. Nov. 19 –Mid-terms will be sent home Nov. 20 –Picture Retakes Nov. 21, 22 and 23- Thanksgiving Vacation-NO SCHOOL Nov. 30 –Family Movie Night
