We all battle between our two natures: will we choose heavenly treasures over worldly gratification? Paul advised how to win that bat- tle: "So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not grat- ify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh...Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life" (Galatians 5:16 -17; 6:8). The family is the most important institution in the world. It was God's idea in the first place. It was not the invention of sociologists or economics or government bureaucrats who decided it would make society operate more smoothly. Families ex- isted before cities and gov- ernments, before written language, nations, temples and churches. In the home, character and integrity are formed, values are made clear and goals are set. These last a lifetime. And if they aren't formed correctly that, too will result in patterns- -bad patterns–that last a lifetime, if God doesn't interfere. Gifts to Use Each of you should use whatever gift you have re- ceived to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10, NIV ). All of us as children of God have received a gift or talent to use for him. Be it the gift of being a servant, teacher, preacher, leader, worker or many others; God has blessed us so that we may glorify him and help others on their path so that in turn they will do the same. Ever heard the phrase "One good deed deserves an- other? " Well, this is a great ex- ample of how the love of God can be spread through your gift. If you use your gift in the name of God to help someone, you gain the ability to show them God and his major gift, Jesus dying for our sins, and, in turn, they will use what gift they have to help some- one else. God's gifts are many and his love is greater. Remember to use what gift he has given you to spread his love to oth- ers around you. God bless you and keep you.
