But that didn't stop them from sharing their views with members of the media and each other. The advocates, which included Waukesha County employers, had hoped to speak to the board about the pending elimi- nation of the Milwaukee County Transit System's JobLines Routes 6 and 61, but weren't allowed to speak because the issue wasn't on the meeting agenda. Gathering in the hallway outside the County Board room, the advocates said they were there to start a conversation with county representatives about transit needs both here and in Milwaukee. Study and need An economic impact study recently released by the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee's Center for Economic Development — "An Analysis of Milwaukee County Transit Service Routes 6 and 61" — reportedly found that nearly 700 businesses with 15,000 jobs in New Berlin, Menomonee Falls and Germantown will lose access to their only available bus service when the routes are eliminated at the end of the year. Although none of her employees take Routes 6 or 61, Megan McKenna, a general manager at Bartolotta Restaurants serving Kohl's Corporate Offices in Menomonee Falls, said she was there because she want- ed to talk about the need for a bus route that will serve Kohl's Corporate Campus. "I am short staffed, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that 50 percent of the can- didates we interview don't have reliable transportation of their own," McKenna said.
