"Moving the museum toward understanding its future needs and path has been one of the most rewarding challenges I've undertaken in my museum career," he said. "I'm certain the museum has a bright future ahead." The museum's board of directors announced Wednesday that Ellen Censky, senior vice presi- dent and academic dean for the MPM, will assume the role of acting president and CEO during the national search process for Kois' replacement. Censky has had previous experience leading museums in Oklahoma and Connecticut. "We want to thank Dennis for his leadership during the last four years during an incredibly important period for the Milwaukee Public Museum," said Thad Nation, board member and co-chair of the Museum's Strategic Planning Core Committee. "I am looking forward to working with our talented staff to build on the work that has been accomplished over the last several years," Censky said. Censky will transition to her new role immediately. "The Milwaukee Public Museum is in the strongest position it has been in decades and we are confi- dent that the institution is bigger and more important than any one individual," Nation said. "The board has full confidence in Dr. Censky, the full leadership team and the staff at the museum, and we are confi- dent that we will not lose any momentum in our efforts to build a new home for the Milwaukee Public Museum." At the end of July, the Milwaukee Public Museum revealed the first of several concepts for a new multimil- lion-dollar museum. After an extensive study of options, the board of direc- tors in 2016 chose to advance a new building as part of the MPM's reaccreditation plan due to the current county- owned building's disrepair, according to a news release. The MPM will raise at least a third of the muse- um's cost from donors statewide, said Jenni Tetzlaff, director of market- ing and communications. The remaining support would have to come from some combination of feder- al, state, county and possibly city support, she said. Where the new museum will be located and what will happen to the old location at 800 W. Wells St. in Milwaukee have yet to be determined, Tetzlaff said.
