If the answer is yes, then the "Council on Aging Telephone Reassurance Program" might be for you. This program is especially for seniors age 60 and above that would like for someone to make phone contact with them Monday through Friday. On these days, a volunteer will call to make sure that you are up and okay. If the volunteer does not get an answer, they will notify a contact person that will come check on you. If you are interested in this program, or would like to be a volunteer to make calls with the Telephone Reassurance Program, please call The Neal Senior Center 704-482-3488. Incontinent Supplies Are you 55 and over and live in Cleveland County? Are you in need of incontinent supplies? Here at the Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, we can help older adults in need of these supplies up to once a month. We have bed pads, bladder pads, and pull-ups, all while supplies last. If you or someone you know could benefit from assistance with these items, please give us a call at 704-482-3488 for more information. The Neal Senior Center will be in the process of restructuring our Dining Room. We are anticipating a NEW GRAND OPENING IN SEPTEMBER THE KITCHEN WILL BE CLOSED AFTER JULY 26, 2018. During the months of January-September, the Dine Around Club meets at an area restaurant on the 4th Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Join us on Thursday, August 23rd as we dine at "Creekside Clock", located at 1025 Kiser St. in Shelby. In addition, a 2018 Dine Around Club Restaurant Schedule is available at the Front Desk for your convenience. Dine "Shag Dancing" is a fun way to meet people and get some exercise at the same time! This is one of the Neal Senior Center's most popular activities and con- tinues to grow in popularity. The center is restarting the "Shag Dancing" class, begin- ning Monday, August 27 through Monday, October 1. Glenn Carter will teach the class from 6:45PM-8:15PM. If you have been thinking about joining a dance class and would like to meet new people and learn a new skill all at once, this is the very class for you! Unfortunately, it is a fact of our everyday world. While we are warned about an impend- ing hurricane, tornado, or flood, some disasters occur unex- pectedly. These include an earthquake or a military attack, such as what our country experienced on 9/11. Bad as all of these situations are, it is imperative to be prepared for them, whether or not we receive advance warning. The Neal Senior Center will be conducting a seminar on "Disaster Planning", which will provide information about how to become well prepared for natural or unexpected disasters. It will be held on Thursday, August 23, beginning at 9:15am. Debra Kuykendall, Ministry Services Director for the North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry, will preside over the seminar. It will be about an hour in length and include a PowerPoint presentation. Through this presenta- tion, becoming aware of what to do will be easier as you learn the necessary steps of preparation.
