The name of their cookSourdough book is Forward By Faith. Lets definitely go forward by faith in Bread the new the year 2013! Starter Im headed to the kitchen and because Ive been asked many times Ill start of the New Year by sharing a recipe for SOURDOUGH BREAD STARTER. Its compliments of MARTHA HAMRICK. In addition Ill give you MARTHAS recipe for SOURDOUGH BREAD. SOURDOUGH BREAD STARTER 1 package active rise yeast 1/2 cup warm water 2 cups lukewarm water 1 cup bread flour 2 cups instant potatoes 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup sugar Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. After dissolving the yeast in water, mix the remaining ingredients together and stir until smooth. Store in jar or bowl at room temperature in draft-free area for 3 to 4 days. Stir two or three times each day. Cover at night and uncover at daytime. After three or four days, store in refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. At this time, you can begin to use it to make bread. After starter is in refrigerator 3 to 5 days, you need to take out and feed with the following: 3/4 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons potato flakes and 1 cup warm water. Mix well, and add to starter. Let stand out of refrigerator all day or overnight, 10 to 12 hours. Then take out 1 cup to make additional bread. Return remainder to refrigerator. Continue to feed starter every 3 to 5 days. When you remove 1 cup of starter you may pass (give) cup to others. NOW, LETS MAKE SOME SOURDOUGH BREAD! 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup corn oil 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup Sourdough Bread Starter (see above) 1 1/2 cups warm water 6 cups bread flour or whole wheat, if you choose butter Mix sugar, corn oil, salt, Sourdough Bread Starter, and warm water thoroughly. Then add bread flour. Grease another bowl, put dough in and turn to grease both sides. Cover with lid, foil or cloth. Let stand all day or overnight. Push down and knead a little. Divide into three equal parts. Knead each part eight to ten times. Put in greased loaf pans. Brush with melted butter. Cover with wax paper. Let rise 2 to 3 hours. Bake at 350 for 30 to 45 minutes. remove from pans and brush with butter, if desired. Cool on a rack or paper towels. Wrap in plastic. Store in refrigerator or freeze. Stay on top of this if you like homemade bread and the entire family will love it. Thats it for this week. I hope you enjoy good homemade bread. As I always say, get in the kitchen and show the love! If you have any requests please just let me know. See you next week. 139 Doctor Henry Norris Drive Rutherfordton 828-287-9260 MyRutherfordRegional.com/Orthopaedics Some of the best cooks in the world are right here in Rutherford County and our nearby neighbors!
