SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL SATURDAY, JULY 21, 2018 WHARF TO WHARF 5
says McConville. "We never
want people to feel burned
by the way registration
was handled, or feel that
registration was based on
how quickly they can type
on a computer keyboard.
We make sure to take care
of our longtime runners and
the local runners by creating
their own window."
For 2018, the registration
process was kept largely
the same as 2017's. "We
just focused on giving
the registrants a good
experience and a fair shot at
registering," says McConville.
"The only real difference was
how much we marketed the
general registration window,
using many methods—print,
digital, social media and
email. We want to market it
enough so that it gets the
word out, but we also want to
refrain from over-marketing it
to the point where it sells out
in less than one hour. To hit
that perfect balance is an
art and a science."
