take long for Earp to discover that
the weapon gave her the ability to
send revenants to Hell.
The gift turned out to be a bless-
ing, since her hometown of Purga-
tory, located in the Ghost River Tri-
angle, is overflowing with super-
natural action. Who would've
thought that a cursed territory near
the Canadian Rockies would be
ground zero for the bizarre and the
supernatural?
Wynonna now spends her
time battling revenants and the
reincarnated outlaws that her
ancestor killed. As powerful as
Peacemaker is, she cannot rid the
area from evil alone. Thankfully,
her skills and powerful gift
haven't gone unnoticed, and she
was recruited by the Black Badge
Division (BBD), a secret govern-
ment agency led by Special
Agent Xavier Dolls (Shamier An-
derson, "Race," 2016).
Fighting alongside Earp and
Dolls is Wynonna's younger sister,
Waverly (Dominique Provost-
Chalkley, "12 Monkeys"), and an
ageless Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon,
"Schitt's Creek"), while Sheriff's
Deputy Nicole Haught (Katherine
Barrell, "Workin' Moms"), who is
Waverly's girlfriend, assists the
team.
The first season of the series fo-
cused on Earp's fight against the
revenants who kidnapped her old-
er sister, Willa (Natalie Krill, "Mol-
ly's Game," 2017), when they were
just girls. In the second season,
Wynonna discovered she was
pregnant and ultimately gave birth
to a beautiful baby girl.
After the birth of Doc and
Wynonna's daughter, the proud
parents decided that the best
course of action to protect the
newborn from the beasts of the
world would be to give her up. This
shocking twist is where the second
season left off.
After dominating the entertain-
ment landscape for so long, the
classical western (think John
Wayne) has been mostly absent
from big and small screens since
the 1980s, save for a few big hits
such as "Pale Rider" (1985),
"Tombstone" (1993) and the re-
make of "True Grit" (2010). How-
ever, the new millennium has
brought many different takes on
the western genre, with contempo-
rary westerns ("No Country for Old
Men," 2007), comedy westerns
("A Million Ways to Die in the
West," 2014) and horror westerns
("Bone Tomahawk," 2015) all hav-
ing a chance to shine.
Chantel Riley joins the
season 3 cast of "Wynonna
Earp"
