So I moved it to the sec- ond tier and then it just start- ed growing everywhere. John asked me not to make that kind of purchase again." After getting the perennial gardens started, Tina began growing vegetables in pots. For about eight years, she recalled, they had about 10 to 12 pots at the edges of the flowerbeds filled with peppers and tomatoes. Not quite the veggie yield she was used to. "Then John bought me an L-Garden," Tina said. These planters are big, movable, durable and easy to use. "I was able to plant snow peas, kale, heirloom tomatoes, jalapenos and about 10-12 herbs," she continued. "I just love it. But I outgrew the first one, so John bought another for the house, and one for our assist- ed living facility. That way our residents can enjoy fresh pro- duce too, and watch the plants grow." Always looking for another challenge, Tina began putting some plants in around the property where they have a condo in Minocqua. "This year I'm spearheading a com- munity vegetable garden there," she said. "I have five novice helpers. That should be fun." Continued from page 8 A recent shot of Becherers' front yard. Tina took this photo of the back yard last year.
