By James Capozella Petersburg High School Alumni members and friends filled the Petersburg Elementary School cafete- ria for the 100th anniversa- ry of the Petersburg Alum- ni Association Banquet this past Saturday evening. The group of more than 100 was welcomed by second year president Rick Miley and opened with a prayer from Pastor Paul Newton follow- ing the social hour and pri- or to the dinner catered by Carla's Catering. Dr. Howard Briscoe was joined at the podium by Jill Ford Snyder for the recogni- tion of reunions and roll call of classes. Rosemary Weath- ers represented the class of 1941 as the oldest in atten- dance and Howard Bris- coe represented the class of 1946. Briscoe and Snyder sang the Petersburg High School Fight Song from memory to the delight of the alumni members. Rick Miley reminisced about a recent trip he took through town that included stops at the Frostop, the roll- er rink and Selby's Pool Hall. The dozen or so business- es and locations no longer exist, but his time capsule brought back fond memo- ries to many of the Peters- burg grads enjoying the trip with Rick down memo- ry lane. A fter the business meet- ing, which included the sec- retary's report and the trea- surer's report by Betty Mi- ley Newton and Sandi King Talley respectively, the new officers were announced. For 2019, Becky Howard will be president and Rob Franklin will be vice presi- dent. Becky Hensley How- ard is stepping down as vice president while Newton and Talley remain at their posts. Contributors to the 100th Petersburg High School Alumni Association were many, and included the PHS Class of 1973.
