The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, May 16, 2018 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 2 CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY something good about someone let me know and we will see if we can give them a high five. We are still trying to re- vive the Old Time Gospel singing association and in- stead of having it at Velpen General Baptist we are moving it to Cup Creek General Baptist. This church is on the junction of Highways 64 and 257 going toward Velpen. At the pres- ent time we have at least three groups who will be sharing songs. This is an open mic affair and if you want to share please do so. We will be aware of Sunday night services so we plan to have people out in plenty of time. We will be starting at 1:30 p.m. and plan on hav- ing a great time. I guess I ought to mention that it is this Sunday, May 20. Good thing I'm not a profession- al columnist with my faulty memory. Well I'll quit for now, so until next week be a bless- ing and accept all bless- ings. This Sunday's sermon title is: "For the Love of Christ." Scripture reading: I Cor- inthians 15:1-4. Theme statement: These four verses are most impor- tant in the Bible. The Bible reminds us of what is of first importance: the gospel ex- pressed in the cross. A true follower of Christ enters in- to a relationship with God that is so close that not even death can break it. There are three undeni- able signs of loving Christ. SR 56 in Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday morning worship 9:30 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :45 a.m.; Thursday eve- ning Bible study at 6:30 p.m. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Questions regarding church events, call 812-582- 8896. Mailing Address: P.O. Rather, in humility val- ue others above yourselves" (Philippians 2:3). Jesus truly modeled this concept in how he cared for others and put their needs above His. What we do to help others may be simple, but if we do it for God, we can have a pro- found influence on the lives that we reach. As Christians, we are called to be people of simplicity and compassion, resourceful and giving. We are to live with integrity and purpose. We act because we are called to love others and show compassion in their time of need. If you are looking for a church, we would love to have you join us for our ser- vices at any time. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m.; Sunday school classes at 10 :45 a.m.; Every other Tuesday night, prayer at 7 p.m. As we step into another week I pray that your eyes are focused on the Word of God, that your ear is in tune with the precious Holy Spir- it and you are stepping for- ward in the plan of God for your life. As you move for- ward with Him it just keeps getting sweeter and sweet- er as the days go by and oh what a love between my Lord and I. Have a blessed week. Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted, and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals. Also, pray about the elections. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into con- tact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. God's servant and friend to humanity, George Bruce, Pastor MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m.; Youth group Monday evening at 6 p.m. Come vis- it us, our doors are always open to you. As Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, they were full of questions- "Where are you going? How will we know the way there? Would you please just show us the Father? "- and not very satisfied with His an- swers. So Jesus promised to send them "another Helper" ( John 14:16 ESV ). And we can almost hear them pro- testing, like kids bemoan- ing a favorite coach's re- tirement or church mem- bers grieving a beloved pastor's call to serve else- where: "Oh, great. Some- one new for us to get to know. It won't be the same. It won't be you." Except...the word anoth- er has two forms in Greek: "another just like this one" and "another, different ver- sion." And when the author of John translated Jesus' Ar- amaic into Greek, the first definition was the accurate one. Jesus was assuring his disciples they'd be in good hands, at peace and secure because the new Helper- the Holy Spirit- would be another just like him. Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday.
