North Posey was third with a score of 363, followed by Gibson Southern (370), Tell City (371), Southridge (381), Forest Park (390), South Spencer (402) and Tecumseh (507). Rounding out the scor- ing for the Chargers were junior Hayden Kabrick (91 – a nine-stroke improve- ment over the 100 he shot in 2017), sophomore Jaylon Mills (96 – a 16 -stroke im- provement over the 111 he shot in 2017) and junior Aus- tin Holder (98). Last year, Heritage Hills placed first with a team score of 335, while Pike Cen- tral was fifth with a team score of 382. The Chargers, who host- ed South Knox on Tuesday, May 15, will host Barr-Reeve on Wednesday, May 16. CAILEY FURMAN has partic- ipated in track at Pike Central for two years, and also ran cross coun- tr y. She was named Most Valuable Runner and Most Improved in cross countr y, and received the Mental Attitude Award in track. Her favorite classes are Medical Terminology and Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG). Cailey is the daughter of Joe and Adrienne Furman, of Petersburg. GAVIN BOYD has run track at Pike Central for four years, and also participated in soccer, wrestling and football. He was named All-PAC and received the Top Defensive Player Award in soccer. Gavin's hobbies include 'jeeping' and bow fishing. He is the son of Amanda Howald and Danny Boyd, of Winslow. CHEYENNE HUGHES is the Student Manager for the girls' track team. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Cheyenne is the daughter of Dana and Jim Hughes, of Winslow. PIKE CENTRAL OF THE WEEK the Lady Chargers' team of senior Gretchen Mc- Crary and sophomore Han- nah Beane won 6 -0 ; Lady Charger freshmen Makay- la Stanley and Shelby Rid- ao won 6 -0 ; and Lady Char- ger freshman Kenley Beck won 6 -0. Pike Central – which fin- ished the season 4-11 over- all and 2-6 in the Pocket Athletic Conference – will take on host Jasper in the first round of the section- al tournament on Wednes- day, May 16, at 4:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the sectional finals – against the winner of the other semifinal match be- tween Southridge and For- est Park – on Wednesday, May 17. PCHS girls' tennis team drops losses to South Spencer, Forest Park, Heritage Hills The Pike Central High School girls' tennis team dropped a 5 -0 loss at South Spencer on Monday, May 7, a 4-1 loss at Forest Park on Thursday, May 10, and a 5 -0 loss to visiting Heritage Hills on Friday, May 11. With the losses, the Lady Chargers fell to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Oakland City coach Wil Neiderhaus obviously saw that at a very early time. He was talking to her and knew what she could bring.
