Junior Troy Rickard collect- ed two singles in three at- bats and walked once. Wil- liams had one hit – a dou- ble – and drove in two runs. Benton and Britton both had run-scoring singles while junior Draven Huff had one single. "We had 12 hits, they had 13," McDonald said. "We walked once and they walked seven times. I think that's probably about the difference right there." "But I didn't have any pitching," McDonald add- ed. "We had a game on Fri- day and two on Saturday. Race started, but I knew he couldn't go a ton because he started on Friday." A fter being held to just one hit – a single leading off the seventh inning by Brit- ton – during a 10 -0 loss to Vincennes Lincoln on Fri- day, May 11, the Chargers raked Wood Memorial for 17 hits in a 14-2 five-inning victory over the Trojans in a game played at Evansville Bosse. Rice went the distance against Wood Memorial, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out eight. He also collected three hits – including a double and a home run – and scored four runs while driving in five. Pike Central then collect- ed seven hits in an 11-2 loss to the host Bulldogs. "We wanted to get a win on Saturday against Wood, so I threw Braxton, and he threw well," McDonald said. "And then he came back and threw in the sec- ond game as well – he had to get us out of a jam to keep us in the game – so it really put him out of this game." However, with two games left in the regular season – on the road at Tecumseh on Wednesday, May 16, and at home against South Spen- cer on Thursday, May 17 – McDonald plans to get his pitching lined up ahead of the Chargers' first-round sectional tournament game against Washington on Wednesday, May 23, at Vincennes Lincoln. "So we'll have Braxton and Troy, and I'll have Race and Brenton to be able to back them up," McDon- ald said. "With those two, Spring Poehlein's Bass Tournament held The 2018 Spring Poe- hlein's Bass Tournament was on Saturday, May 5, in Pike County. There was a great turnout with 16 teams. We might give up six or seven runs, but the trick is we have to be able to get six or seven runs." "If Braxton throws here tonight, and we get eight, we probably win, because Braxton's going to give up four, five, six runs a game," McDonald added. "He's been giving up four, five, six runs a game, and we've been getting two. You never know how the game plays out, but I feel that the magic goal for us is to score six to eight runs. And I think we'll compete." Pike Central High School junior Race Britton prepares to deliver a pitch during varsity baseball game action against visiting Northeast Dubois on Monday, May 14.
