Page 3 April 27, 2018 Students apply for Biliteracy Seal Juan Solis is a senior who took AP Spanish last year. Juan took Spanish for three years during high school. Juan Solis passed the AP Spanish Exam with a score of a five which is the highest score he could've or anyone can receive and therefore earning his biliteracy seal. When asked Juan Solis responded about what were the hardest things about AP Spanish and Juan said that it was the "procrastination with the experiencias temáticas". Julia Zumalt who is a senior is currently taking AP Spanish and soon is going to be taking her AP exam. Julia has been taking Spanish for four years and has been taking advanced Spanish for three years. When asked about AP Spanish Julia said that the hardest things about Spanish and she said "I am not a native speaker,so considering things like idiomatic language and slang words can be hard to Ellie Miller is an AP Spanish student applying for the biliteracy test next month. She wants to take the test because it proves your f luency and you are able to self evaluate yourself. This is a self goal of hers and she is pushing herself hard to achieve it. Ellie would love to learn Italian she thinks it's cool to know more than one language. It would be cool to be able to speak multiple languages. She currently works at the fire department and is the only one who speaks Spanish. She is an asset if they need to help someone in need who does not speak English. It will look good in future jobs if she can speak multiple different languages. She said, "by taking the test J o r d a n Muñoz is an AP S p a n i s h s t u d e n t a p p l y i n g for the bilingual test next month. Jordan is a senior this year and will be taking the test May 8 at 8:00 AM. She would like to participate in this because she would love to have a seal of biliteracy on her diploma she gets to sit in a special section of the crowd. She is looking forward to graduation and getting recognition for her hard work all year. understand." Julia Zumalt says that "I am actively trying to learning about another culture is important because it allows you to understand your own and, to also appreciate how so many different culture can bend in the USA and still be cohesive for most of the time." Julia also mentioned that during her AP Spanish experience "Spanish is the hardest class that I have taken, and I've taken many challenging classes throughout high school". When asked about what where the easiest things that he encountered while taking AP Spanish he said, "that everything else excluding the experiencias temáticas which were the hardest." Juan mentioned that what he learned from taking Spanish during high school was that "I learned how to speak English better and how to be better at grammar." Juan Solis also mentioned about his Spanish experience that his grammar was done a more concise manner. you s e t y o u r s e l f up for success." She is looking forward t o graduation and her special ceremony where she will get recognition for all her hard work she has put in this year. It is a cool gift to be able to speak another language and will stand out to others around you. She does not know exactly what she wants to do as a career but what ever she chooses doing this will benefit her greatly. She will be better off with a biliteracy sticker on her diploma it will help her a lot in her future. She said, "it proves that you can speak a second language." It is a lot of hard work but it will be worth it in the end. She said that she would also love to learn American sign language and German. If she is able to do this would be absolutely amazing to be able to speak that many languages. She loves different languages and thinks it would be cool to speak them. Being able to speak a different language stands out to bosses and will get you hired more easily. She would love to be an EMT and could talk to someone in need who did not speak English. This is a great skill to have in the work force. It is not a trait many people have and would look better for future jobs.
