Boonville's Underhill one-hits Chargers in 13-3 win Sophomore Dylan Under- hill pitched a one-hitter as Boonville defeated visiting Pike Central 13-3 in a high school baseball game on Thursday, April 5. The Chargers' only hit of the game was collected by sophomore centerfielder Connor O'Neal, a two-out sin- gle in the third inning. Boonville (2-0) scored six runs in the first inning and another in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead before Pike Central rallied to score three runs in the top of the third. With two outs, junior left- fielder Draven Huff and ju- nior shortstop Race Britton drew back-to-back walks. Ju- nior catcher Brennon Benton was then hit by a pitch, load- ing the bases. The next batter, junior third baseman Braxton Rice, reached on a fielder's choice as Huff scored the Chargers' first run. A fter an error by Pioneers junior shortstop Kyle Leslie allowed Britton and Benton to score while Rice advanced to second base, a single by O'Neal re-loaded the bases before Underhill got junior first baseman Kyle Williams to ground out to end the in - ning. Boonville scored three runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth in- ning to end the game on the 10 -run rule. Chargers fall at Princeton 11-1 Junior third baseman David Jones drove in three runs as Princeton defeat- ed visiting Pike Central 11-1 in the Princeton Com- munity High School Base- ball Invitational on Satur- day, April 7. Jones went 3-for-3 at the plate with one double and scored two runs in the Ti- gers' season-opening win. Senior pitcher Heath Rumple went the dis- tance for Princeton, allow- ing one run – which was earned – on two hits while walking one and striking out four. Pike Central scored its only run of the game in the third inning, when junior left fielder Draven Huff drew a one-out walk and – after advancing to second base on a sacrifice bunt by junior shortstop Race Brit- ton – scored on a double by Benton. Junior first baseman Braxton Rice collected the only other hit allowed by Rumple, a two-out single in the first inning. The four-team Princ- eton Community High School Baseball Invita- tional was shortened to just two games – with South Knox taking on North Daviess in the other contest – due to tempera- tures at or below freezing. PCHS boys' track team opens season by placing first in tri-meet at Tecumseh Sophomore Nate Woolery won two individual events as the Pike Central High School boys' track and field team opened its season by finishing first in a three- team meet hosted by Te- cumseh on Monday, April 2. Woolery placed first in the 800 -meter run with a personal-best time of 2:14, and first in the 3,200 -meter run with a time of 11:21. Woolery also teamed up with junior Christian Ben- son and freshmen Ijaa Chambers and Sam Jones to place first in the 3,200 -me- ter run with a time of 9:44.56. Also placing first in indi- vidual events for the Char- gers were Chambers in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 5:25; freshman Colt Armstrong in the 200 -me- ter dash with a time of 24.72 seconds; senior Gavin Boyd in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 11.82 seconds; ju- nior Colton Carpenter in the 400 -meter dash with a per- sonal-best time of 56.76 sec- onds; and sophomore Sam Theising in the 110 -meter high hurdles with a time of 19.28 seconds. In addition, the team of Carpenter, Theising, sopho- more Tyler Kirby and fresh- man Ethan Huck placed first in the 1,600 -meter re- lay with a time of 4:03.82. Placing second in indi- vidual events for the Char- gers were Armstrong in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches; Chambers in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:16; Theising in the 300 -meter hurdles with a time of 46.60 sec- onds; sophomore A.J. Hill in the 1,600 -meter run with a personal-best time of 5:52, and in the 3,200 -meter run with a personal-best time of 12:54; junior Adam Kir- by in long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4 inches, and in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 58.75 seconds; and junior Andrew Krieg in shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 9 inches. Placing third in individ- ual events for the Char- gers were Tyler Kirby in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 26.09 seconds; Jones in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 6:02, and in the 3,200 -meter run with a time of 13:51; sophomore Blake Henson in long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1-1/2 inches; freshman Stephen Krieg in shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 5 inches; and fresh- man Connor Young in the 110 -meter high hurdles with a time of 21.66 sec- onds. Placing fourth in indi- vidual events for the Char- gers were Huck in long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 4 inches, and in the 100 -me- ter dash with a time of 12.12 seconds; Tyler Kirby in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches; Benson in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:37; Young in the 300 -meter hurdles with a time of 53.91 seconds; soph- omore Avery Dyer in shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 5 inches; and freshman Lane Potts in the 1,600 -meeter run with a time of 6:11, and in the 3,200 -meter run with a time of 14:36. Also competing but not placing in shot put were sophomores Alec Fred- erick, who had a person- al-best throw of 24 feet, 11 inches, and Alec Frederick, who had a personal-best throw of 23 feet, 8 inches, and freshman Cody Davis, who had a throw of 24 feet, 4 inches, and Josh McHar- gue, who had a throw of 23 feet, 1 inch. Also, the team of Tyler Kirby, Theising, Armstrong and Boyd placed second in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 48.28 seconds. As a team, Pike Central scored a total of 92 points. Tecumseh was second with 51 points, while Washing- ton Catholic finished third with one point. "We had some good re- sults despite coming off of Spring Break and dealing with the cold and the wind," Chargers head coach Chris Kramer said. "These guys have really fought hard to battle through some things with the weather over the past couple of weeks, and have continued to work hard and continue to im- prove."
