C-2 Church Wednesday, March 14, 2018 The Press-Dispatch Continued in next column Continued in next column Silence is golden, un- less you have a puppy... Then, silence is suspi- cious very, very suspi- cious. This week PAWS is fea- turing a little live wire named Carsen, who is the last pup left from a litter of nine. He was born January 1, at PAWS and rang in the New Year in style. Carsen was named after Purdue Basketball guard Carsen Edwards, as he is scrap- py, determined, and can steal a ball right out from under you. He is a very self-confident pup, loves human attention, has short, smooth fur that is black with tan accents and adorable brown eyes that convey his spunky attitude and love for life. To adopt Carsen, call 812-354-9894. Legends indicate that Pat- rick rid Ireland of snakes and that he used the sham- rock as an object lesson to teach pagans about the Trin- ity, but there is no evidence that these legends are true. In fact Patrick was known as the "Apostle of Ireland." He planted churches, the first one likely at Saul, in North- ern Ireland. We remember him best not in legends and the ways his holiday is cele- brated today, but by reflect- ing on the prayer written on his breastplate, which points to Christ, the One he pro- claimed to his captors. "Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ be- neath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of ev- ery man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of ev- eryone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me." A bar of raw steel may be purchased for a few dollars, but when that bar of steel has been thrust into the fires and processed, when it has been tampered and forged and made into tiny watch springs for expensive watch- es, it is worth thousands of dollars. Fire and the skilled hands of master artisans made the difference, en- hancing the value. Just as the sun by its heat and light performs a thou- sand miracles a day in the plant kingdom. God through the refining fire of His Spir- it performs a thousand mir- acles a day in the spiritu- al realm. His regenerat- ing power can take the dull and ordinary things of our lives—even the burned out ashes of our past, and forge them into something use- ful, even beautiful for His purposes. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your presence will be deeply ap- preciated and I am sure you will enjoy the blessings of God. The God Squad is cur- rently selling Faith Candles in order to pay their fees to National Youth Conference in June. They have been learning about witnessing to others. God's Little People learned about sin and wash- ing it away this week. The evening of March 11, brought us an amazing performance by Mrs. Tray- lor and the Pike Central Swing Choir. Our church was very blessed by this per- formance. The church fam- ily is very proud of all of the students, to include our own Austin Loveless, Chase Dot- terweich and Jake Sisk. We enjoyed time of fellowship with the choir students and families following the perfor- mance. Easter Sunrise Service at Mt. Olive will begin at 7 a.m. followed by a carry in break- fast. Learning Patience "I waited patiently for the Lord's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry" (Psalm 40 :1, NLT). All of us are guilty of not being patient at some time or another. Even as Christians, it is so hard to keep from get- ting impatient while living in a world of instant gratifica- tion. We cry out to God and expect immediate results. Is God capable of this? Of course he is. We as Chris- tians need to remember, though, that God is not on- ly our Heavenly Father, but our teacher and counsellor. He would never ignore us or bring harm on us. I say this knowing it is hard to fathom that God already knows the situation and is sending help or creating a way for you to overcome the obstacle in your life.
