We had our first snowfall in the weeks before Thanksgiving, on the night of our event to With Dane Fletcher at our fall fashion show at the Revere Hotel's Space 57. celebrate Boston's "New Guard" of men. I felt a little frisson of excite- ment, that Christmas Eve tingle of anticipation. It's the same feeling I got the first time I saw the Boston Ballet dancers in their sparkly new costumes (thanks to hundreds of jewels) when going behind the scenes with photographer Eric Levin for our feature on the new Nutcracker. Watching artist Robert Perdziola at work, fitting the costumes and paging through his dozens of sketches—prints of which the Ballet plans to make available to the public on a limited basis—was a rare glimpse and a gift we give to you in this issue. Speaking of gifts—we have 16 pages of gorgeous ideas for you to get or give. (Santa, if you're reading this, I've got my eye on the sapphire Van Cleef & Arpels earrings from Dorfman Jewelers.) Even as I look ahead to the holidays I want to mention a few recent fall highlights, including Christian Louboutin's October appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue, where he signed hundreds of red-soled shoes and dished on the footwear he wishes never to see again—clogs ("They are so bad for the feet," he laments). Many of our friends were spotted in the shoe salon at Saks, nearly buried in boxes of Mr. Louboutin's art for the feet as they tried on styles Facebook.com/boston-common and on Follow me on Facebook at bostoncommon-magazine.com. shipped in from around the world before joining him at the ICA for a private cocktail reception. And I believe I saw many Louboutins on guests at this year's Storybook Ball at the Museum of Fine Arts, where singing nuns led us through The Sound of Music favorites and carnival games put us in a fun-loving and generous spirit of giving for the MassGeneral Hospital for Children. Enjoy this issue and your holiday soirées with style! ABOVE: With Doc Rivers at The Liberty hotel. LEFT: With Boston Celtic star Rajon Rondo at our event to celebrate his cover.
