Page 3 January 26, 2018 Student Opinions Red Bluff High Authors Isaac Partain, a Freshman at Red Bluff High, is a aspir- ing author who was inspired to write a story on "Stone- henge". He was inspired by Mr. Sanders to read and write about "Stonehenge". It is a story about mystery and legends; he en- joyed reading about all the mystery in the circles of "Stonehenge". His inspira- tion for writing is anything that catches his interest, e s p e c i a l l y m y s t e r y . When writ- ing a story he Lilith Tosta, a Senior at Red Bluff High, is a Wattpad pub- lished author, who is a thriving writer. When asked what her inspiration for writing was, she stated, "I wasn't really inspired by any one thing or person, I kind of. . . just did it. As I got older and my writ- ings became more complex and held a deeper meaning to them, I realized that I was helping many of the people who were reading my work by providing an, I guess you could say, a es- cape from reality. That became my inspiration, to have something so small that impacts people and their imagi- nations." When asked when she began to write, she stated, "I have always been a storyteller, since I was younger I would write small horror stories for my 5th grade teacher, he was a little concerned with my darker mind, but I believe he thor- oughly enjoyed them." Lilith will write about any fictional genre tied in with a little bit of meaningful truth behind it. In order to get ideas, she likes maintaining an open mind. She stated, "Having a broad genre allows me to connect with more people, helps me under- stand them. I've heard people say that you can lose yourself in a book, but only because you found yourself in it too." When writing it's better to never force anything, but rather letting it come to mind naturally. She stated, "I don't have really anything that gives me ideas per say, it's more of a in the moment type of situation, I could be doing anything and be inspired. Sometimes all it takes is a good conversation with a friend or sitting in complete si- lence, never force it." Depending on the story and on the era it takes place in, there is certain re- search that has to be done in or- der to get the facts right. She s t a t e d , " S o m e story lines do take a lot of re- search, in order to transport a reader to another time or place, you have to be accurate with the little details. Without those little details, it's easy to just set a book down and never touch it again. I am writing a book with my good friend Halle, and we have d o n e hours of research. It's exhaust- ing, yet 100% worth it." When writing a story she both outlines it and goes forward with writ- ing it as her ideas come to mind, she stated, "I both outline a sto- ry or just dive right into it, it all depends on how much force is behind the sudden burst of mo- tivation or inspiration." She has finished a couple of stories in the life time that she has lived, she stated, "I actu- ally have completed a couple novels, only one is open to the public right now and it's not my best work. . .but people seemed to like it so I keep it up. I do have a series lined up and ready to be worked on, if only I didn't have horrible time management skills." When it comes to writers block she has a few things to say along with one or two tips, she stated, "Writer's block is when you are stuck on either something super simple like describing the way your character walks from the kitchen table to the fridge or how you are going to execute the biggest plot twist ever.. . and it always has the worse tim- ing. A lot of times, you just have to step away from it and wait for it to hit you in the face like a stone brick, or many times, I listen to music I have never listened to before. That usually does the trick." Writing is not a hobby, but rather it is a passion that must be fulfilled, she stat- ed, "Writing has been my tool to get by through each day for as long as I can remember, it's more of a passion than a hobby. I do see myself publishing quiet a few novels, but not as my sole career. The writing industry is tough, so you have to have a back up plan." "I just want closure, Michael." She gently places her hand on his cheek and leans back into him. The begin to walk once more, stepping in unison. As they reach the front door, Mrs. Rohan pulls her jacket closer to her body. "Ready?" Michael asks his mother. She nods, and he opens up the black umbrella that was tucked away into his trench coat. Michael opens the heavy steel doors, exposing both of them to the rainy weather. Slowly, one step at a time, they head down the slippery cement stairs. "Mrs. Rohan?" A man's voice calls as they round the pillar at the end of the stairs. Both Michael and his mother turn to face the reads articles about the topic that comes to mind. Some of his sto- ries revolve around his personality, he stated, "Some of my other stories are about stuff that has to do with my personality." He began to write when he was in elemen- tary school with shorter stories that later went on to develop to better and more detailed stories. Writing to him is more of a hobby than a future planned career. 'The Sound of Silence' sound. At the opposite side of the stairs, a tall, broad man leans against the pillar; all black clothes contrast to the white stone. His eyes hide be- hind dark glasses and long black, wet hair falls on the sides of his face. "Do we know you?" The man smiles, some- thing undeni- ably charming yet sinister about it. "You don't know me, young Michael, but oh do I know so much about you." The smile nev- er falls from his lips. "Well, what do you want then?" Mrs. Rohan says, her voice shak- ing with nerves. "It is not what I want my dear; it is what you want...the thing only I can give you." The words slip off his tongue in an enthrall- ing manner, a particular se- duction held in every letter pronounced. "W-what do you mean?" "Your pre- cious Nicki of course." His grin widens along with Mrs. Ro- han's eyes. "You know where she is?" The man nods. "All you have to do is come with me." Mrs. Rohan steps up to the man hastily. "I'll do anything to get my baby girl back." "I'm glad you said that." The words leave an eerie sensation between the three of them. Chills dance along Michael's spine, and he shivers to shake them away. "Is something wrong Michael?" The smile on his lips waivers for a moment. Michael clears his throat then scratches his jaw, "No, sir." "Excellent." The smile makes its way back to his face, and the two are enchanted once again. He brings his index finger and thumb to his lips, a melodic whistle flows from his mouth. The purr of an engine ap- proaches, then the blinding light of headlights shine into the moth- er-son duos eyes. "Our chariot awaits." He gestures his hand to- wards the sleek, black limousine.
