On Sunday, Feb. 11, each bracket in the 14 weight classes will be revealed on IHSA Atv.org beginning at 4 p.m., Eastern time. The show will be hosted by Greg Rakestraw and Hall of Fame coach Mike Goebel and begin with the 106 pound weight class and continue through the 285 pounders. The 224 wrestlers qual- ifying for the 80th annual state finals will begin with first-round matches on Fri- day, Feb. 16, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in India- napolis. Those winning in- dividuals will return Satur- day, Feb. 17, for quarterfi- nal action, with state cham- pionship bouts culminating that evening. Indiana golf leaders committed to improving pace of play Golf leaders in Indiana are convinced that pace of play at the junior golf lev- el is declining and it needs to improve for the future of the game in the Hoosier State. Representatives from the Indiana High School Ath- letic Association, Indiana Golf Association, Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association, Indiana PGA and the United States Golf Association have devel- oped an unprecedented ju- nior golf "Pace of Play" ac- tion plan that will increase awareness through educa- tion with an added element of accountability for junior golfers and their coaches. In a recent survey com- pleted by 147 Indiana high school coaches, the major- ity of these coaches believe a reasonable pace of play is 4-1/2 hours or less. Com- mon causes for slow play were identified as play- ers not being ready to play when it's their turn; players not moving quick enough between shots; and pre- shot routines taking too long. Beginning with the 2018 IHSA A girls' golf season in July, all sectional par- ticipants and their coach- es will be required to view a 20 -minute "Pace of Play" video and complete the testing components con- tained in the video, which will focus on golf course awareness, pre-shot rou- tines, putting green proce- dures and equipment man- agement. Anticipating sweep- ing changes to the USGA Rules of Golf beginning in 2019, this year's Indiana High School Golf Coach- es Conference will focus on the Rules of Golf in an effort to help a coach bet- ter assist his/her players with the rules while on the course. Beginning in 2019, the IHSA A will conduct rules seminars for all of its high school coaches prior to the start of their season. The IHSA A and the In- diana PGA are also devel- oping a pilot program for the boys' high school reg- ular season in April. Play- ers will be expected to complete nine holes in two hours and fifteen minutes. Procedures and guidelines will be in place to assist and ensure players com- plete their rounds in the allotted time. The Indiana PGA will officially invited its members and their fa- cilities to participate in late February. Ted Bishop, 38th Presi- dent of the PGA of Amer- ica, directed the group. "He handled every opponent he wrestled. He even re- corded a pin in the region- al finals match, and that is something not very many wrestlers in the state can say for sure. He had an amazing day." Sisk will be the No. 3 seed and will square off against 14th-seeded Plainfield junior Jack Bid- dle (29 -10) in the open- ing round of the semi- state tournament. The winner will then face the winner of a bout between sixth-seeded Providence junior Sam Hudlin (28 -13) and 11th-seeded Bloom- ington South senior Har- ley Hillenburg (30 -4) in the quarterfinal round. Jones, seeded second in the 126 -pound weight class, won his first match against seventh-seeded Paoli junior Chad War- ren by a 13-6 decision, then defeated sixth-seed- ed Bedford North Law- rence sophomore Derek Hutchins by pin – in 3:03 – to advance to the cham- pionship match against fifth-seeded New Albany freshman Jordan Rober- son. Roberson subsequently defeated Jones by a 4-0 de- cision to improve to 27-14. "Dylan wrestled fan- tastic," Hewig said. "He beat his first guy handi- ly and then dominated his second-round match. He was very aggressive and got the pin against a very tough opponent. He was confident in his offense and worked at it all day. He lost his last match, but only 31 other 126 -pound wrestlers in the state can say they wrestled in the re- gional finals. A great day for Dylan for sure." Jones (35 -3) will be the No. 8 seed and will square off against ninth-seed- ed Boonville junior Ev- an Overton (38 -8) in the opening round of the semi- state tournament. The winner will then face the winner of a bout between top-seeded Columbus East junior Cayden Rooks (38 -1) and 16th-seeded Mooresville senior Spen- cer Cox (32-8) in the quar- terfinal round. Last year, Rooks placed first in state in the 120 -pound weight class, ending the season with a 46 -1 record. Pike Central freshman Dalton Williams, seed- ed fifth in the 106 -pound weight class, was elim- inated after suffering a loss by pin – in 2:00 – to fourth-seeded Bloom- ington North freshman Cade Miller in the open- ing round. Williams end- ed the season with a re- cord of 29 -9. Charger freshman Lane Miller, seeded seventh in the 120 -pound weight class, was eliminated af- ter suffering a loss to sec- ond-seeded Blooming- ton North sophomore Jus- tice Cash by pin – in 33 seconds – in the opening round. Miller ended the season with a record of 22-13. Pike Central junior Ran- dy Powell, seeded seventh in the 132-pound weight class, was eliminated af- ter suffering a loss to sec- ond-seeded Indian Creek sophomore Owen Sego by pin – in 1:42 – in the open- ing round. Powell ended the season with a record of 17-12. Charger senior Gavin Boyd, seeded eighth in the 170 -pound weight class, was eliminated after suf- fering a loss to top-seed- ed Bloomington South se- nior Luke Hensley by pin – in 2:43 – in the opening round. Boyd ended the season with a record of 25 -12. As a team, Pike Central placed sixth with a score of 60 points, trailing Bloom- ington South (114 points), Edgewood (93), Floyd Central (90.5), New Al- bany (71) and Southridge (67). Indian Creek was seventh with 59.5 points, followed by Bloomington North (53), West Vigo (36), Owen Valley (30), Terre Haute South (25), Paoli (21), North Knox (17), Sullivan (16), Jas- per (11), Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell (8 points each), and For- est Park, Northview and Terre Haute North (0 points each). The semi-state tourna- ment, which is hosted by Evansville Reitz, will be- gin at the Ford Center on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m., Eastern time. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state meet, which will be held on Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Bankers Life Field- house in Indianapolis. The last Pike Central wrestler to advance to the state meet was Cody Ken- dle, who achieved the feat in both 2009 and 2010. He placed seventh in the state in the 112-pound weight class in 2010.
