Fourth Annual Gibson Southern New Years Tourney largest in country By James Capozella Saturday's Gibson Southern Archery Club fourth annual New Years NASP tour- nament involved a record 50 schools and more than 900 archers. Six shooters from Wood Memorial High School competed in the event and includ- ed: Evan Strickland (277, 12), Kaden Te- pe (257, 7), Katlyn Siekman (241, 7), An- thony Siekman (239, 2), Kyndall Sterczer (224, 2) and Kody Lee (207, 4). Wood Me- morial Junior High shooters were: Jon Walker (246, 5), Wylee Keeker (242, 4), Kayden Sterczer (236, 5), Faith Smithhart (230, 1), Lucas Gress (226, 1), Evie Sil- va (208, 1) and Hannah Deisher (187, 4). Oakland City Elementary had four shoot- ers including (Anthony Gress (245, 6), Ryder Griswold (231, 3), Alison Keek- er (217, 3) and Luke Livermore (83, 0). Barton Township Elementary had four ar- chers including: Megan Schwartz (245, 6), Elijah Schlottman (232, 4), Alex Van- matre (204, 2) and Noah Doerner (197, 1). Senior Evan Strickland ranked 25th out of 107 shooters and was third among se- niors. His overall rank was 37th out of 427 archers. Freshman Kaden Tepe ranked 65th out of 107 boys, finished 18th out of 41 freshmen and was 122nd out of 427 shooters. Katlyn Siekman was the top Wood Memorial girl scoring 241 with sev- en tens and 19th out of 30 juniors. She was 85th out of 121 high school girls and 192nd out of all 381 girls participating. Jon Walker was the to Wood Memori- al Junior High shooter with 246 and five tens. He was 89th out of 232 middle school boys , 40th out of 71 eight grades and 177 out of a total of 427 shooters. Faith Smith- hart was the top girl on the team with 230 points. She was 233rd out of 381 girls. An- thony Gress was the top Oakland City El- ementary shooter with 245 points and six tens. He was 91st out of 232 middle school boys, 19th out of 76 sixth graders and 179 out of 427. Alison Keeker was the top girl with 217 points and 29th out of 83 elemen- tary girls. Megan Schwartz was the top girl for Barton Township, taking second out of 36 fourth graders with 245 points and 13th out of 83 middle school girls. Elijah Schlottman shot a 232 rakning 21st out of 88 boys and 14th out of 47 fifth grade boys. Titan Sophomores Kasey Julian and Brandon Beauchamp were the top South Gibson scorers with 15 and 11 tens re- spectively. Both had 276 points with Ju- lian placing 15th out of 121 girls and sixth overall against 10th graders. Beauchamp was 26th out of 107 boys and 10th out of 29 sophomores. The Gibson Southern Ar- chery Club scored 3,172 points ranking sixth out of 10 high schools. The team fin- ished seventh last year and were 36th out of 79 teams at the 2016 World NASP tour- ney. Castle High School won this year's event with 3,435 points and Tecumseh High School was second (3,311). St. Benedict Cathedral School was first in the middle division with 3261 and Boon- ville Middle school was second (3246). Haubstadt Community School placed 13th out of 21 schools with 2,859 points and 65 tens, improving from 16th in last years New Years tourney. An early press deadline, due to the Monday New Year holiday, precluded inclusion of the tourney results in last week's edition. Twenty one shooters represented Gib- son Southern high school with Kasey Ju- lian the top team member with 276 points and 15 tens. Brandon Beauchamp was sec- ond, also with 276 points but 11 tens. Oth- er scorers included: Stephanie Cullom (272, 13), Ethan Schnarr (271, 8), Macy Beard (269, 10), Caleb Shoultz (267, 7), Justin Mattix (260, 12), Paige Tobe (258,7, Alex Adams (258, 5), Jacob Cullom (256, 7), Sara Steurer (255, 7) and Kaitlyn Nur- renbern.
