Ed Cahill photo "I know (senior) Cam- eron Henson's been strug- gling a little bit of late, but it's a mental thing with him, and it's just some- thing where he's got to have confidence," Elliott added. "We have confi- dence in him and he's got to come out and, I think, fo- cus on the little things, and the shots are going to fall. He can't worry about that. If he can play defense and rebound, that shot's going to come around." For the game, Pike Cen- tral made 18 of 39 field goal attempts – a 46.2 percent average – and hit nine of 13 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 10 times. Saulmon, who was 2-for-2 from three-point range during the first quar- ter, added eight points for the Trojans (7-3). "Any time you have a kid that's a roleplayer that steps up and hits some shots for you, that's always going to open up the floor a little bit more, and he stepped up," Elliott said of Saulmon. "We knew he was a shooter coming in and he hit two big ones there that first quarter." Bartley also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, dished out a team-high three assists and blocked two shots. Falls and Bart- ley both had two steals. For the game, Wood Me- morial made 22 of 38 field goal attempts – a 57.9 per- cent average – and hit 14 of 20 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over nine times. Pike Central will play its first home games since Dec. 15 when the Chargers host Heritage Hills on Fri- day, Jan. 12, and Boonville on Saturday, Jan. 13. "It'll be nice to be back home, in front of our fans, and our comfortable envi- ronment and, hopefully, get back on track here," said Elliott, whose team is 2-0 at home with wins over Southridge and Vincennes Rivet. BOYS Continued from page 3 PCMS 8th grade girls' basketball team drops 27-13 loss to Boonville The Pike Central Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team slipped to 8 -7 with a 27-13 loss to vis- iting Boonville on Wednes- day, Jan. 3. A fter battling Boonville to a 4-4 tie in the first quar- ter, the Lady Chargers were out-scored 7-2 in the second period to fall behind 11-6 at halftime. The Lady Panthers sub- sequently out-scored Pike Central 8 -5 in the third pe- riod and 8 -2 in the fourth quarter to open up a 14-point lead. "Turnovers out of our of- fense really put a hurting on us," said Lady Chargers head coach Eric Knight, whose team turned the ball over 16 times. "We had the open looks against their 2- 3 zone but just couldn't buy a bucket. When shots aren't falling, it's hard to get an of- fense going against a zone." "Defensively, I thought we played really well," Knight added. "Most of their points were off our turnovers and wide-open lay-ups. When- ever Boonville set up a half- court offensive set, we did really well stopping them." Albany Ashley led Pike Central in scoring with four points. Sophie Carnahan added three points while Ashton Catt, Mallory Hunt and Kya Sullivan tallied two points each. Alli Holder, meanwhile, grabbed a team- high five rebounds. In the seventh grade con- test, Pike Central dropped to 9 -7 with a 29 -12 loss to Boon- ville. Chloe Williams paced the Lady Chargers with six points while Kahle Young and Keena Young tossed in four points and two points, respectively. Pike Central, which host- ed Tecumseh on Tuesday, Jan. 9, will host Jasper on Thursday, Jan. 11, with the seventh grade squad play- ing A and B games at the Old Petersburg Gym while the eighth grade squad will play an A game at the middle school gym. The Lady Char- gers will host Southridge on Monday, Jan. 15. PCMS 7th grade Boys' Basketball vs North Knox SUBSCRIBE TODAY! 812-354-8500 We're not afraid
