Steve Key presents Scarlett Syse with the HSPA 2017 Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding contribution to the newspaper industry in Indiana. Syse supervises news operations for AIM Media Indiana's daily newspapers in Columbus, Franklin, Greenfield and Seymour, and the company's weekly newspapers in Pendleton, New Palestine, Fortville-McCordsville, Nashville and Brownstown. Syse also serves as chairperson of the HSPA Freedom of Information Committee. Max Jones, Bill Connelly and John Rumbach talk after a presenta- tion outlining the most recent HSPA readership and advertising study. Cory Bollinger discusses survey findings on newspaper advertis- ing and consumer spending habits. HSPA Board of Directors President Chuck Wells and Jack Pate, retired publisher of the Evansville Courier & Press, speak with a representative from Recruitology. David Chavern, president and CEO of News Media Alliance, leads a discussion on credibility and the news media. Muhammad Yasin, director of marketing for PERQ, delivers his presentation, "Push Through – Transitioning Your Growth Model to Digital Products." Vendors discuss their products with conference attendees. Company representatives were on hand to talk about software and business solutions. After the conference sessions, attendees adjourned for lunch and a talk by retired U.S. Congressman Lee Hamilton in the Alexander Hotel's ballroom.
