Winslow Seniors meet on Monday and Tuesday at the Snyder Community Center. Petersburg Seniors meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednes- day, and Friday at the Court- house basement. Postcards this week at Sweets Column Winslow, IN 47598 were none in the old mail box. Winslow is still here and Saturday and Sunday it started to rain but not as hard as they expected. The showers are what the ground needed. The Patoka River before it rained was low to less than half empty. The wind was strong if you drove the roads Saturday, leaves blowing everywhere and we saw a real small dirt devil. The yards all over the counties are showing up that Halloween will soon be here. I enjoy the view and the trees changing also. My corner lot has some Hallow- een signs – Black Cat, pump- kin and ghost, plus two big pumpkins just to start. The temps were fall like in the low 80s in the day and 60s at night, jacket at night time. This month isn't half over with but there has been a whole lot going on. The Winslow Lions had a fund- raiser Thursday evening at the Trading Post for a Soup and Sandwich get together with friends to help out the Chastity Brew - ster family in the passing of Paul, her hus- band. The mu- sic was DSL with Lowell Thomas and Steve Edwards who sang a variety of your favorites and also Henry Nelson who sang some of his tunes. There was a silent auction of sev- eral items. One of the items that made a hit was a black cat skeleton when turned on makes the hissing sound and mad sounding meows, with red scary eyes, a light- house music box, a wagon cart for gardening, baskets, flower hangers, and much more to bid on. The good was real delicious, the soups were bean, vegetables, pota- to, and two chili's; sandwich- es were cheese, chicken, ham; tacos, cornbread, and the desserts were cheese- cake, pies, cakes, and cook- ies. At one time the whole restaurant was almost filled to help out a neighbor and I would like to say a big thank you for the donations and the music for our entertain- ment and the Winslow Lions for the great food and Kristy for the use of the Trading Post. There was a mishap that could have been real bad and it involved a not com- pletely sealed bowl of Cool Whip and Jerry Hill. The Cool Whip slipped out of my fingers and fell to the floor up right but the Cool Whip came out and went all over the floor and Jerry was spared with just a few drop- lets on his pants. So sorry, Jerry! Friday the Swampbil- ly Band and the Hootenan- nies played at the parking lot next to the Eskimo Gro- cery, since the weather has changed a bit chilly this was their last time on a Fri- day night of easy listening or even a dance or two. This past Friday there was a little girl who loved the songs and we all loved her. You had to bring your chair and bring your own drink but it's all worth it to hear Dave and Ti- na Gayhart, Dave Abel, and Tim Wheeler play some of your tunes. Saturday was the Haunted Huntingburg, so Norm and I went to check it out and it was cool to see all the busi- nesses handing out treats to all their little trick or treat- ers in their costumes. We al- so saw the art work by the kids. You could see at least four big picture windows with the amazing artwork featuring Fall and Hallow- een. There were a few new stores we hadn't been in and the regular stores that will always be on 4th street. To all the stores, we really en- joyed ourselves and that was a great thing you do for the kids each year. One store owner invites you to the Rosenvolk German Medi- eval Festival Oct 20 – 22 at the 18th Street Park in Fer- dinand. We were getting hungry so we took a scenic drive to Princeton and we ran in- to some sprinkles around Oakland City but ran out of it in Princeton. We saw the clouds darken but noth- ing until the evening hours when we got home from vis- iting with friends. Norm and I could not have had the fun we had if it wasn't for the use of Ver- non's and Laura's cars and thank you so very much for helping us get out of the county for more fun activi- ties. Have you ever had a fall that was in slow motion and you didn't break anything? Well that is what happened to me and right now, on Sun- day night, I have a twisted big toe and a twisted knee that are both swollen but I can still walk and no pain, yet. All I could do as I sat there on the ground is laugh and the initial hurt was not bad at all. It's time to dim the lights on this weeks ramblings but keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and en- joy your area plus the deer will be running across the roads, and always smile, wave, and say Hi to every- one we see this week.
