In the first set, the Lady Chargers trailed 3-1 before scoring six straight points – including five following serves by Mills – to take a 7-3 lead. The Lady Alices would rally to tie the score at 7-7, 8 -8 and 13-13 before back-to- back points – including one following a serve by Mad- elyn Lansford – gave Pike Central a 15 -13 lead. A fter Vincennes Clark closed to within 15 -14 and 16 -15, the Lady Chargers scored five of the next sev- en points – including two fol- lowing serves by Mills – to open up a 21-17 lead. Leading 21-18, Pike Cen- tral scored three straight points – including two fol- lowing serves by Ella Adams – to stretch its lead to 24-18. Four straight points by the Lady Alices narrowed the deficit to 24-22 before Pike Central tallied the set-winning point to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three match. Trailing 2-1 early in the second set, the Lady Char- gers scored six straight points – including five fol- lowing serves by Mills – to take a 7-2 lead. Then, leading 11-8, Pike Central rattled off nine con- secutive points – including eight following serves by Haylie Fulcher – to take a 20 -8 advantage. A fter Vincennes Clark scored to close to with- in 20 -9, the Lady Chargers finished the match off by scoring five straight points, including four following serves by Lansford. Fulcher had 10 points off serve while Lansford add- ed five as Pike Central im- proved to 8 -2. Adams had four service points. In the "B" match, the La- dy Alices defeated Pike Cen- tral 25 -20, 25 -10. Loren Huck and Breanna Hunt both had three service points while Addy Russell and Zarah Sal- lee added two each for the Lady Chargers "B" team, which fell to 3-4. Trailing 12-11 in the first set, the Lady Chargers scored 12 straight points – in- cluding 11 following serves by Mills – to take a 23-12 lead. The Lady Warriors would score three of the next four points before Pike Central (9 -2) scored the winning point on a sideout. In the second set, after North Knox took an early 3-0 lead, the Lady Chargers rolled off nine consecutive points – including eight fol- lowing serves by Kavanaugh – to take a 9 -3 lead. The Lady Warriors rallied, however, tying the score at 15 -15 and 16 -16 before taking a 17-16 lead. However, Pike Central an- swered by scoring seven un- answered points – including six following serves by Mad- elyn Lansford – to take a 23- 17 lead. A fter North Knox scored four straight points to close to within 23-21, the Lady Chargers netted back-to- back points – the second one following a serve by Kavana- ugh – to win the best-of-three match in straight sets. In the "B" match, Pike Central trailed by as ma- ny as six points – at 12-6 – in the first set before rally- ing for seven straight points – six following serves by Ath- alee Loveless – to take a 13- 12 lead. Later, with the score tied at 20 -20, North Knox tallied four of the next six points to take a 24-22 lead. The Lady Chargers, how- ever, would bounce back, scoring three consecutive points – including two follow- ing serves by Loren Huck – to win the first set 25 -24. In the second set, Pike Central scored seven straight points – including six follow- ing serves by Jaidyn Gogel – to erase an early 1-0 defi- cit while cruising to a 25 -13 victory. Loveless led the Lady Chargers "B" team – which improved to 5 -4 – with eight points off serve. Gogel add- ed seven service points while Huck had five. "What a way to end the season," said Pike Central head coach Stephanie Shedd. "I am so proud of all the girls this season. The team made great improvements and I hope I instilled a love for vol- leyball in them." Freshman Kenzie Powell netted three points with two ace serves and one kill while sophomores Audrey Keep- es (two kills) and Alexis En- glert (one kill, one block) scored two points each. In addition, Powell had five set-assists while Au- brie Dawson, Keepes and sophomore Karsyn Pipes had seven digs each. Fresh- man Mallory Hickey had five digs while sophomore Shel- by Sisk added four. Pike Central will open postseason play when it takes on Princeton in the semifinal round of the sec- tional tournament at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Sul- livan. During their regular-sea- son meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Princeton, the Pike Central defeated the La- dy Tigers 25 -18, 25 -23, 16 -25, 19 -25, 15 -13. "We were really excited to see our draw for Saturday," Walton said. "We know we are playing a team we can beat, because we have al- ready. We have to go in with confidence and remember to believe in ourselves."
