Send it along to BRIEFS PAXTON MEDIA GROUP ADDS TO KENTUCKY, TENNESSEE PORTFOLIO WITH ACQUISITIONS FROM CIVITAS MEDIA P axton Media Group, a fifth-generation family-owned company based in Paducah, Kentucky, added to its Border States holdings with the acquisition of three news- papers from Civitas Media: the Grayson County News-Gazette in Leitchfield, Ky.; the News- Democrat & Leader in Russellville, Ky.; and the Macon County Times in Lafayette, Tenn. Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a media merger and acquisition firm based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, repre- sented Civitas Media in the transaction. Terms were not disclosed. The Grayson County News-Gazette is a twice-weekly that has been published for more than a century. The News-Democrat & Leader has roots dating back to Russellville's first newspaper published in 1806, and is also a twice-weekly. The Macon County Times, publishes every Thursday. The papers will join o t h e r s u r r o u n d i n g Paxton publications in a g r o u p m a n a g e d by Group Publisher Bob Mo r ris. T h at g ro u p includes four dailies— the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro, Ky.; The Messenger in Madison- ville, Ky.; the Daily Clarion in Princeton, I n d . ; a n d t h e S u n - C o m m e r c i a l i n Vincennes, Ind.—as well as five bi-weekly and weekly publications. "Re presenting f ive generations of family o w n e r s h i p, P a x t o n Media Group is proud and honored to have the opportunity to acquire these newspapers," Morris said. "For more than 100 years we have had one goal in mind and that is to publish a great newspaper. We are proud to continue this tradition and look forward to being a strong advocate for these communities and to provide local news and information in a newspaper the community will be proud of." Paxton Media Group owns more than 30 daily news- papers and numerous weekly publications across Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Loui- siana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
