DEADLINES ARE TUESDAY (2pm) FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND PAPER. 255317040 By HANNAH WEIKEL Conley News Service WAUKESHA — Arrest warrants were still out for nine of the 10 potential jurors who failed to respond to jury questionnaires in Anissa Weier's case and didn't respond to court summons Aug. 11. One individual contacted Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday claiming to have received his or her ques- tionnaire in the mail that day. The individual's arrest warrant was dropped, but the $500 fine for not appearing in court remains, said Kathleen Madden, Waukesha County clerk of circuit courts. The others hadn't been arrested by police or turned themselves in before the deadline. Weier and Morgan Geyser, both 15, will be tried separately this fall as adults, facing charges of first-degree intention- al homicide after they allegedly stabbed a class- mate more than a dozen times to appease a fic- tional internet character named Slender Man when they were 12. On Aug. 11, Madden said either 12 or 14 unresponsive jurors were summoned to Judge Michael O. Bohren's chambers, but only two showed up to fill out the question- naires in person. Both said they had sent completed questionnaires in the mail and suggested there was a mix-up there. Madden estimated that 1,150 question- naires have been sent to potential jurors for Weier's trial. Initially, about 850 qualifying questionnaires were sent to people in Waukesha County. After granting postpone- ments and slimming the original pool based on other factors, about 650 follow-up ques- tionnaires were sent with specific questions about the Slender Man case. The first pool was whittled down to too few, so the court sent out about 500 addition- al questionnaires, for which deadlines haven't expired, Madden said. If anyone in the second wave doesn't respond, Bohren has the power to issue more arrest warrants. Madden said the juror pool for the Slender Man cases is much larger than others due to the media attention and amount of informa- tion that people in Waukesha County know about the girls and their charges. Warrants remain for nine Slender Man jurors after one dropped Weier Geyser
