Opinion E Page 2 Students should take pride in a clean campus... verybody should want to take pride in their school campus and community. It is not hard to throw your extra food away after lunch, get rid of your gum in a TRASH can, or clean up after yourselves if you drop something. We don't know if any of you have seen the ground of our school's hallways, but observing little black mounds of gum in every direction is not an appealing sight to students here or to any visitors on campus. Who wants other schools or visitors to remember Red Bluff High as being that one sketchy school with a trashy campus? It is not just the gum and trash that is a problem on our campus – It is the area around Red Bluff High as well. There are more than a few homes close to Red Bluff High that are foreclosed and slowly deteriorating, and students at Red Bluff High could help not only the overall appearance of the school, but this entire area of Red Bluff by doing something to improve these vacant houses. Students enrolled in CSF could earn their hours by contributing some of their spare time to working on improving the look of the area in and around the high school. Picking up trash around campus is one way, but focusing on aspects just outside of the campus is another way. There are plenty of weeds that need to be pulled in the neighborhoods surrounding the high school; especially in front of empty houses. These houses could also use paint jobs. Even though these houses are not part of our school, just these two simple tasks would greatly improve the atmosphere of our school grounds. We, students, should not feel ashamed of our school, and there are plenty of little things we could do to make a difference, such as throw your gum and other trash in the garbage. A comfortable, clean campus is often one aspect of school that is overlooked, but if a little extra effort was made to create this pleasant atmosphere, it would be beneficial to all. School internet censorship is over the top A The high school's internet censorship should be left up to parent's descretion s you probably know, the school's internet is censored. A lot. The school can block a web site for any number of reasons, from humor to pornography. But is all of this protection necessary? The school may be within its rights to censor our internet, but to what extent? Do we really need to be blocked from material the school deems inappropriate? The internet has become such a huge part of our lives that it seems wrong to deny us access to it. One of the problems with less censorship is distraction. If students are bored in class and have access to a computer with uncensored internet, won't they pay less attention than a student with heavily censored internet? No, not really. Even with heavily censored web access, students can always find a way to distract themselves on the internet. But I believe it is the student's responsibility to not be distracted during class. If you need blocked internet to pay attention in school, you are going to find another way to not pay attention. It doesn't take long to find an unblocked game or humor site. I all inappropriate content? It is just an inconvenience to anyone with some internet know-how. I think that a student's internet access should be determined by their parents. The school could ask the parents if their kids could have full internet access or censored access. Then, the students whose parents wanted to have censored internet would have their accounts censored. This way, parents could control what their child has access to. I'm not totally opposed to censorship of our internet. Pornography and graphic content should be blocked by our computers. But our school's censorship is just way too much. A little bit of control on our internet is acceptable, heck, it's even necessary. But the way it is now is just excessive and annoying. Josiah Vasey know several sites I can access from the school to entertain me for hours on end. This raises another point: the censorship program doesn't even work. If you have enough knowledge about computers and the internet, you can easily find your way around the school's blocking program. I have used the internet for a long time and I know that I can search certain words and immediately come up with unblocked images of things too twisted and graphic for even an - film. Why even have this censorship program if it doesn't block to go to after, like football, volley ball, or girls' tennis, and some of us have other extra- curricular activities to attend. When we finally get home we would love to just relax for the few remaining hours of the day, until we have to go to bed and get ready for the next day; but, no, we have to start our homework instead. It may not be that bad for E seniors with easy classes, but for sophomores and juniors, especially, from my past experiences, a regular school day, including sports, was a nightmare. Yeah, the classes are hard, that's not what I am getting at; it's when you are exhausted from just ending your practice and then knowing that you have homework in every Too much homework causes stress and takes away from family time very day we all go to school, some of us have sports class waiting for you when you get home. Being done with school should be a relief, but for some it could be a disaster. Also, if you have an excessive amount of homework, it takes away time from your family. Not only that, but when " Being done with school should be a relief, but for some it could be a disaster." they are finally done with their homework, they are in such a bad mood that they don't even want to spend time with their family. A lot of families like to all sit down at the dinner table together ad discuss their day and problems, and they can't do THE BLUFFER Editorial Staff Marissa Chase News Editors Laurel Shoop Rebecca Blanchard Viewpoint Editor A&E Editors Connor Ross Josiah Vasey Features Editors Ashlan Brunello Bailey Patchen Egan Meagher Sports Editor Shelby Keeler Brittany Villa Topic Editors Editorial Policy: Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the district, staff, or student body. Often times teachers are too busy to even grade their students homework, so they have a teachers' assistant do it for them. So, yes, the kids are getting practice at home, but they could be doing the whole assignment wrong and not even know it. The teacher's assistant cannot correct the assignment as well as the teacher can, so many students are just practicing bad habits. A lot of teacher's assistants will just mark it as correct if the problem is done, but the students do not benefit from this at all. This also leads to kids just copying their fellow classmate's work. Some may say that it is preparing us for college, but why do so much homework now? If anything this much homework September 28, 2012 A&E Editor motivates kids to never want to be in a classroom again. I believe homework should not be allowed in schools. An occasional fun project is acceptable because kids will have fun with that. . You don't see adults going to work all day in their office and then coming home to large anounts of work. If we have homework then what is the point of having school? We can easily learn stuff off the internet and then just do worksheets in class. Mitch Fox is excited to get a break from the bad weather and being able to make it through school without wanting to pass out from the heat. After having such a hot Fall has arrived F all has just sprung and I think just about everybody the sky. The other thing I love about summer (like always) people can start bringing out their long sleeves, pants, sweatshirts, hoodies, and boots, and not get too hot or too cold. One of my favorite parts about fall season is that it's when all the exciting things happen such as, football games, Homecoming, Halloween, the beginning of basketball, and that one week off for Thanksgiving where we get to rest up and fill up. Nothing sounds better than Staff Writer The voice of Red Bluff High School since 1901 Editor-In-Chief Advertising Director Natalie Almond those calm weekend nights with your friends drinking hot chocolate and watching scary movies. Or taking family trips to mountains where you're right next to a fire getting to look at fall is the look of the nature. You've got the colorful leaves on the ground, the smoke coming from the house fires that the smell even makes you warm, and look in the sky where there's no wildfire smoke. It just seems as if everything about fall is so great; it isn't too hot like summer or too cold like winter, and the scenery is so beautiful. Get ready, guys, because the fall weather is coming soon, and many people are so excited for the cozy clothes, perfect weather, and the falling leaves.
