It was one of three OV WI arrests in Pike County last week. Matthew Robert Mize, 27, of 105 E. Ohio St., Princ- eton was arrested after po- lice responded to two 911 calls at 9:23 p.m. Friday. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Jason McKinney said Petersburg Police Cpl. Jar- ed Simmons arrived at the scene first near CR375W and found a blue Kia with the engine still running and Mize passed out behind the wheel. Deputy McKinney said it took Cpl. Simmons several attempts to awaken Mize and multiple attempts to get him out of the car. Once out of the car, Deputy McKin- ney said police took a one- hitter pipe out of Mize's hand. They also found a plastic bag in Mize's shirt pocket containing synthetic mar- ijuana. Mize failed field sobriety tests. Mize refused a chem- ical test and was transport- ed to the Pike County Jail, where he was preliminari- ly charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicat- ed (refusal), possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of parapher- nalia. A Henderson, Ken- tucky woman and her passenger were arrested early Sunday morning af- ter police stopped her for driving 87 mph in a 70 zone on I-69. Chasity A. Kahn, 30, of 56 N. McKinley St, Hen- derson, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (refusal). Deputy McKinney said after stopping her for speeding, she told him she didn't have a driver's license. McKin- ney said Kahn's speech was slurred and she had bloodshot, glassy eyes. He said he asked her if she was under the influ- ence of anything. She first denied it and said police could search her vehicle. Deputy McKinney said police found two hypoder- mic needles hidden un- der a compartment in the center console. Both field tested positive for meth- amphetamine. Her passenger, Jarod Davidson, 47, of Evans- ville told police both of the needles were his, according to McKinney's report. Both were taken into cus- tody. Davidson was prelimi- narily charged with posses- sion of hypodermic needles and possession of meth. A Jasper man was arrest- ed on meth, gun and drunk- en driving charges after po- lice responded to numerous calls of a vehicle going into the ditch multiple times last Thursday. Luis O. Palma, 38, of 1320 Jackson St., Jasper was ar- rested by Pike County Dep- uty Paul Collier at 3:45 p.m on Highway 56 near Coun- ty Road 725 E. Deputy Collier said at 3:36 p.m. he was notified by central dispatch of motorist reports of a silver Chevrolet passenger car northbound on I-69 that wasn't main- taining its lane. About five minutes later Deputy Col- lier said he was notified the car had almost hit an- other vehicle and gone into the ditch several times, and was continuing south on 61 until it turned on Highway 56. Deputy Collier said he was able to stop the vehi- cle near CR725E. He said it stopped in the middle of the eastbound lane. According to Collier's report, Palma said he was having trouble with the front end of his car. Palma failed field so- briety tests and refused a chemical test. He was trans- ported to the Pike County Jail. Deputy Collier in his reported stated, Palma told him he had a syringe in his shoe, but it wasn't his. He was just hiding it because it was in his car. The report also stated Palma admitted taking meth a week prior to the stop. Deputy Collier said while he was transporting Palma to the jail, State Trooper CJ Boeckman called him and asked him to return to Pal- ma's vehicle. CR850W, Hazleton was arrested after testing four times the legal limit for blood alcohol content Mon- day evening following a col- lision with a pickup truck driven by Gary Bateman of rural Otwell. Deputy Collier said he was sent to a crash of an AT V and pickup truck at the intersection of High- way 65 and County Road 775 in Union. When he ar- rived Armstrong was lean- ing against truck and said he was driving the AT V. Collier said Armstrong ac- knowledged he knew it was against the law to drive an AT V on a state highway. Collier's report states he also noticed an alcoholic beverage container on the ground by the AT V. Arm- strong said he had one beer to drink and had just gotten another before the crash. Armstrong failed field sobriety tests and was tak- en to Memorial Hospital in Jasper complaining of wrist pain.
