Petersburg Assistant Fire Chief Jon Craig said Chelsea Day had put a pan of grease on the burner to fix a meal and got distracted, then found the pan on fire. It had started to burn the cabinets above the stove. He said she threw a large pan of water on the fire and put it out. Craig said the fire was out when the fire department arrived. So they checked to make sure it hadn't spread to areas they couldn't see. He said typically using water on a grease fire makes it worse because it causes the grease to splatter and the grease continues to burn. However, he said because there was just a small amount of grease, it was overwhelmed by the large amount of water. "We recommend everyone keep an ABC type fire extin- guisher in the kitchen," said Craig. Kramer crash knocks out power A rural Petersburg man, Larry Kramer, 76, escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when he crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of County Road 400 N. and CR 375 W. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Brad Jenkins said Kramer was driving his pickup truck west on CR 400 N. and fell asleep, going left of center and off the left side of the road, before striking the utility pole and overturning. Kramer was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but was not seriously injured. The utility pole had power lines connected to it from CR 400 N. and CR 375 W. It knocked out power for WIN Energy Customers for several hours Friday afternoon and evening.
