Poplar Street, Petersburg NEWS BRIEFS School registration dates set Registration will be held at Petersburg and Winslow elementary schools on Thursday, Aug. 3, from noon to 7 p.m.; on Friday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and on Monday, Aug. 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will be held at Pike Central Middle School and Pike Central High School on Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 3, from noon to 6 p.m.; and on Monday, Aug. 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local NARFE chapter to meet July 12 The National Active and Retired Federal Employ- ees (NARFE) Patoka Valley Chapter #1847 will meet at noon on Wednesday, July 12 at the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper. The speaker will be Dorothy Weisheit, Southern Care Hospice, Jasper. Her topic will be an overview of Hospice care and the Hospice volunteer program. Block Party on Main Street, Petersburg set for Friday, July 14 There will be a Block Party, Friday, July 14, from noon until 4 p.m. Local vendors are invited to set up a table/booth on Main Street. Health Department will have a booth at the Fair Saturday The Pike County Health Department will have a booth at the 4-H Fair this Saturday, July 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., adjacent to the Air Evac team. Everyone who stops by the Heath Department's ta- ble will receive a free gift and can also enter a draw- ing for several summer fun gift bags to be given away at the end of the day.* The Health Department wants to promote summer health and safety, and remind the community of their new location at 907 E Walnut St., in Petersburg. (*Winners need not be present to win, but may pick up prizes the following week at the Health Department.) Blue Jeans Center will host Sunday dinner The Blue Jeans Community Center in Monroe City will host Sunday dinner, a picnic in the air conditioned cafeteria, July 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include: pulled pork sliders, ham and cheese sliders, chicken salad sandwiches, baked beans, deviled eggs, potato salad, broccoli salad, porch salad, plus a special dessert treat, make your own sun- daes. Carry-outs available. All proceeds benefit the center. Oakland City Lions Club blood drive on Aug. 4 There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Oak- land City Lions Sweet Corn Festival at Oakland City Wirth Park on August 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. CDT.
