TV Media Weekly | June 24 - 30, 2017 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: What ever happened to "Rehab Addict"? Are we ever going to see some new shows from Nicole Curtis? I have learned so much from her and really miss her shows. A: A lot has happened to Nicole Curtis since May 2016, when the season 7 finale of "Rehab Addict" aired on HGTV. She's faced multi- ple personal and legal challenges (and some that are both) in the year and a half since she finished filming the most recent season. The good news, however, is she's cur- rently busy filming season 8. No date has been announced for the new installment, but her Fa- cebook page has been filled for the past few months with photos of her hard at work on a new series of renos. Being busy with work again is probably bittersweet for Curtis — it's taking her mind off her legal and family troubles, but taking her time away from her 2-year-old son as well. In a very frank interview with Country Living magazine, she ex- plained that her show's hiatus was due to her desire to care for her new son and her recently widowed grandfather. Her son, Harper, was born in May 2015, but maternity leave just wasn't an option at the time. "We had contracts to get through. I went from giving birth to filming and building." As soon as those obligations were completed, she decided to take some family time. However, that was almost immediately com- plicated by the death of her grand- mother. Care of her 91-year-old grandfather fell to her. There have also been legal bat- tles going on at the same time. She's been fighting with her ex- boyfriend for custody of Harper, while being sued by the state of Minnesota, and by her own mother (she's been a little less open about that one). These accumulated pressures forced her to prioritize. "My life is absolutely not perfect," she told Country Living. "The most impor- tant thing for me is to be strong for my children and my grandfather." Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. Hollywood Q&A By Andrew Warren TV Media H ot enough for you? No, not the temperature out- side — although at this time of year it can be pretty scorching — but rather the flames, specifically the ones be- ing hunted down by Roger Mook- ing. The host of "Man Fire Food" has been back with another sea- son of the Cooking Channel show since early last month, with new episodes airing Tuesday evenings. This week's new episode airs Tuesday, June 27. This week's stop on his quest to find the most interesting and lip-smacking ways to cook with fire is right in the metropolitan heart of the Lone Star State. There, he hangs out with an award-winning pitmaster, who takes his classic Texas barbecue beyond the norm. In Texas, beef is king, but for this barbecue guru, it's all about the special cuts that don't often find their way onto people's plates. Later, it's off to Austin, where our charming host finds a chef with a unique piece of equipment that's used to cook whole chick- ens over hot coals. Paired with squash stuffed with farro and veggies, it's a fire-touched meal to make anyone's mouth water. And that's what "Man Fire Food" is all about: the seemingly countless ways that food can be prepared with that most basic of cooking "appliances" — fire. There are no electric ranges, sous- vide machines or microwave ov- ens to be seen: just fire, whether it's open flames or smoldering coals. In next week's episode, which is set to air on Independence Day, the host sticks around in Texas. In San Antonio, he meets up with re- cent "Iron Chef Gauntlet" contes- tant chef Jason Dady to make a Spanish paella with a Thai twist over an open fire. Then, it's back to Austin for Mooking, where he finds a restaurant with an as- tounding 30 sausages on its menu. Later this season, the host checks out "outlaw barbecue" in Ridgefield, Connecticut; Brazil- ian-style barbecue in Palatine, Illi- nois; andouille sausage in Nash- ville, Tennessee; and, of course, a whole-hog barbecue. No matter where he goes, Rog- er Mooking has no trouble finding people who cook with fire, often in ways that even he, an experi- enced chef, has never seen before.
