Page 9 May 26, 2017 Sports The 2017 Junior Varsity softball team ended their season on May 12. Their last game was played against Pleasant Valley High School at Pleasant Valley. Although their last game did not have the outcome they were hoping for the team was still proud with how their season went as a whole. The season was filled with a lot of hard work, time and dedication put in on and off the field. All together the girls placed 4th in league and agreed there best game that they played was against Foothill High School. Halie Hankins says, "Foothill was one of the greatest game we played all season because even though we lost the game everyone on the team was working hard and played really well." That was only one of the many great memories these girls made throughout the season, Sydney Sinclair said, Kennady Sandow Staff Writer Mateo Zepeda (11) "Baseball because I love the sport." Megan Boone (12) "Track and Field because I enjoy the atmosphere of it." Colten Del Dotto (9) "Football because I enjoy the game." Mrs. Gonzalez (Teacher) "Soccer because that is the only sport I know." partan ound S off "Vans rides were one of my favorite memories because we jammed out and had a lot of fun and that is where we really grew closer as a team." Also, there were a few highlights that really stood out for individuals on the team. One being when sophomore, Bailey Diggs, led the game off by hitting a home run at the beginning of the season. Another was when Sinclair hit her first home run of the season against West Valley High School at Big League of Dreams. The team had a great season and they found it very enjoyable. Most of the girls that participated in this past season are looking forward to playing next year. Logan Carver Staff Writer The 2016-2017 Red Bluff high school varsity golf team have been putting away their competitors one after another. They have been competing at an upraising competitive level all throughout the year. Dawson Hopper is a sophomore and is participating in his second year as a Red Bluff golfer. Hopper is hoping to make it to sections this season. His personal goal for the season is to make it to masters and to compete. The lowest score that Hopper has ever shot on eighteen holes is an eighty-three and his favorite part about the sport is "Having fun, hitting balls on the range and horsing around at practice." Senior Nate Fregoso who has been on the Red Bluff high school golf team since his freshman year is now participating in his final year of varsity golf. Fregoso has been playing golf since he was five years old and is planning on playing during his attendance at college. Fregoso's lowest score for eighteen holes is sixty-nine strokes; his personal goal for the season is "To make all league, and take first place in the states tournament." Winning is Fregoso's favorite part about playing golf, and why he prefers to play with the school golf team instead of golfing by himself. The entire golf team had advanced to sections; however, they did not score under 430 so only the top four scores got to move on to final. Golf season closes well Courtesy Photo The Varsity baseball team's successful season has come to an end. They made it all the way to section championships where they beat the Pleasant Valley Vikings 7-2. Colton Youngblood, a junior, has been playing baseball for fifteen years. He plays two positions bench and center field. When asked what his favorite part about baseball was, he said, "I like hitting dingers." He ended the season with a batting average of .350. His brother, Austin, is also on the Varsity team. Austin says that he has been playing baseball for thirteen years, and he is a center fielder. His overall batting average was .413. His favorite part about baseball is batting. "After high school, I plan on playing baseball at Lassen or Feather River" Austin said. His favorite game was against Pleasant Valley when they went 5 for 5. Matteo Zepeda's favorite game was against the Pleasant Valley Vikings. This season, Zepeda said that he did not hit any dingers this season. Zepeda's favorite part about baseball is losing. He has been playing for twelve years and sits the bench. "This season my batting average is 1001," Zepeda said. Although the Varsity baseball's season is over, they did extremely well and are looking forward to a successful season next year. Varsity baseball finishes a successful season this year Bryce Stephenson Staff Writer Track has been a sport since the Ancient Greece Olympics. Over time, track has expanded to many countries across the globe, and the top athletes compete every four years. As the 2017 track season comes to end, many of the athletes are wishing the season was still going on. Mason Vasquez was a freshman distance runner. This was his fourth year doing track; it was his first time running for the high school. Mason said, "My personal record for my mile is 5:45, and somehow I still got last that meet, but I ran the overall mile fast. I kept a constant p a c e t h roug hout the entire r a c e . " V a s q u e z said that his favorite part about track was being with friends, the long practice runs, and just having fun. Furthermore, his favorite track meet was the meet against the Pleasant Valley Vikings. Vasquez's toughest competitor was Chico high school. Ron King, a sophomore, said that he enjoyed track a lot. He too t h o u g h t that the h i g h s c h o o l ' s t o u g h e s t competitor was the Chico high Panthers. " M y favorite part of track was when we did the jogathon," King stated. Brendan Ortega was a new Bryce Stephenson Staff Writer Track ends with some wishing for more member to the Red Bluff high school track team. He is a freshman. He does four events: 110 hurdles, long jump, high jump and triple jump. He said that his toughest competitor was the Enterprise Hornets. His fastest time in the hurdles was 19.44 seconds. His longest long jump was seventeen feet one inch. His longest triple jump was thirty three feet ten inches; his highest high jump was five feet. Ortega said, "My favorite part of track was getting to meet new people and competing in meets." The season itself is over; however, some of the athletes have moved on to divisions.
