Sober Grad is an annual celebration that is run by the parents of Red Bluff High students and helps provide an alcohol-free and drug-free environment for graduating seniors. Sober Grad was founded thirty years ago by California Highway Patrol in response to the amount of seniors that die on their graduation night due to drugs or alcohol. This year's Sober Grad is being directed by Ele Scott, mother of Hailey and Evan Scott. Her goal this year is to send off Red Bluff High senior graduates with a great party. The goal of Sober Grad is to limit the amount of alcohol or drug inf luenced incidents that happen with seniors on their graduating night. It is strongly believed that Sober Grad accomplishes that goal very well. Sober Grad is a school- r e l a t e d event run by parents that encourages a sober night of celebration among graduating seniors at Red Bluff High School. This year's Sober Grad vast amounts of food and activities. In previous years there has been photo booths, bounce houses, go-karts, and Blackjack tables. There has been more food t h a n you can eat, and a Dutch Brothers cart is usually there as well. Along with the food and activities, there is also numerous prizes. The prizes As the end of the year comes around, the last performances and shows in the performing arts program come together to signify an end that is bittersweet. On May 4, all three choir classes came together for a show themed as a view throughout the decades. Classic 70's songs, the Rat Pack and Prince were hit numbers in the show, along with new millennial songs from artists Justin Bieber and Adele. To newcomers, the show was amazing to perform one last time before the end of the year. To seniors, choir has given them a foundation and second home to express their creative selves, and to let all of that go and plunge into a new and unknown beginning is daunting. For senior Curtis Nichols, he feels that he's "...not a follower, but a leader; and to see all the people I've taught being left to fill my steps is very rewarding but heartbreaking." He stated Choir kids look that is was amazing to perform the Rat Pack number because he was "...singing, being and dancing with the most important people in my life." Ethan Van Lent, a member of the Forte class, states that leaving choir was sad knowing "...that foundation that I had wasn't going to be there, but it made me stronger." He also states that "Mrs. Hassay tells us to believe in ourselves and believe in others; she just pushes us for the better." Jacklyn Jones, another senior in the Forte class, says she'll miss going to the competitions the most, and that it's going to be difficult and heartbreaking when she gets into real life. When asked if she would continue to pursue music in her future, she wholeheartedly stated she would "Stick to my gospel, and possibly go to New Orleans where it's most popular." For all the students leaving, the choir will be an amazing family they have to leave behind, but they know that because of it they are ready to start a new chapter. On Saturday, May 13th, Red Bluff High School put on a guitar recital at 7:00 P.M. The recital was directed by the guitar, history, and psychology teacher, Mr. Geiger, and was the second annual recital at RBHS. The recital featured students from Mr. Geiger's guitar classes. The selected music for the program came from a large range of artists such as Johann S e b a s t i a n Bach, David G i l m o r e , J o h n n y C a s h , Christina Perri, Hozier, and also Ed Sheeran. Many students in the class also arranged their own songs to perform such as Michael Sartori, junior, who performed, "I'll Be." Another artist who produced and performed their own song was junior Nick Orson, with his song "Breakeven." Many of the performers just began to learn guitar through the guitar class taught by Geiger such as Gabe Officer. Officer stated, "I really wanted to learn… but I never really got around to it." The guitar show offered a chance for these students studying guitar to showcase their abilities. Gabe Crooks, senior, said," My favorite part of the guitar show was probably just the performance, just being on stage, and the music." An abundance of the performers from the show had never performed on stage before and were initially nervous but increasingly became more and more excited as the show continued. Riley Wright, junior, stated, "I guess it was cool that I got to watch other people perform because most of the time when you're performing you don't get to see their acts on stage." The performers were able to watch and support their fellow members as they practiced and performed their acts. Wright also stated, "Overall I think it went pretty well, there was no huge disasters, yeah there was a little hiccups because people were nervous but in the end I think it came t o g e t h e r p r e t t y well."
