But the recent announcement that the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus is fold- ing up its tent and ending a 146- year institution had some people thinking the circus as we know it was coming to an end in May when the company holds its final show. But Scott O'Donnell, executive director of the Baraboo-based Circus World Museum, said such assertions could not be any fur- ther from the truth. "There's been a talk for a long time that the circus is on its death knell, and that simply is not true," O'Donnell said. "There are still over 50 different circus companies of different variations that are running, and (Ringling Bros.' announcement) doesn't change that."
