Page 5 December 14, 2016 Sports Wrestling team performed Spartan's Coach of the Issue Bill Treat: Alpine T his month's coach of the issue is Bill Treat. This is his twenty-first year as a Alpine coach at Red Bluff High School. When he was asked why he decided to become a Alpine coach Treat said, "I love getting kids involved with the sport and I got into from my kids participating from skiing." "I like getting to know the kids and teaching them new skills," is what Treat responded with when he was asked why he liked coaching. At the end of the day, his motto is "Performing Well in Sports=Performing Well in Life." Coach of the Issue/Gabriel Hale The 2016-2017 Red Bluff High School's wrestling team has been performing well since the last few tournaments with their well a c q u a i n t e d coaches. S o p h o m o r e Brindin Hethcoat who has been wrestling for two years at Red Bluff High School said he has been performing alright getting a 2-2 record. "My personal goal this year is to wrestle in all varsity duals and some varsity t o u r n a m e n t s ," said Sophomore Brindin Hethcoat. H e t h c o a t believes that the team goal this year is to build up from last year. What Brindin loves most about the sport is that it helps get your aggression out when needed. Senior Brandon Marsh who has been wrestling for four years at Red Bluff High School said he has been performing really well getting a record of 4-1. "My personal goal this year is to get first in sections," said Senior Brandon Marsh. Marsh believes that the team goal this year is to get section title. What Brandon loves most about the sport is getting that win. Sophomore Andrew Miller who has been wrestling for two years at Red Bluff High School said he has been performing alright getting a 2-2 record. "My personal goal this year is to be a section place winner," said S o p h o m o r e A n d r e w Miller. Miller believes that the team goal this year is to get section title. W h a t Andrew loves most about the sport is the ability to win against many other people. T h e wrestling team will have their next game today in a duel at West Valley. The 2016-2017 Red Bluff High School's alpine team have been practicing and learning well with their head coach getting ready for their first race. Sophomore Trinity Tumidanski who has been skiing on alpine for two years said she loved the team. "What I love most about the sport is being able to be with my team," said Sophomore Trinity Tumidanski. Trinity's personal goal is to get all her race times up from last year. Tumidanski believes that the team goal is to be the top team in state. Junior Mariah Damante who has been skiing on alpine for three years said she enjoys the team. "What I love most about the sport is the ability to go to championships for Red Bluff High School," said Junior Mariah Damante. Mariah's personal goal is to beat her placement score in last years championship. Damante believes also that the team goal is to be the top team in state. Junior Ryan Mueller who has been skiing on alpine for three years said he finds the team amusing. "What I love most about the sport is having the ability to ski on the mountain," said Junior Ryan Mueller. Ryan's personal goal is to get his fastest personal race time up. Mueller believes that the team goal is to have everybody to get their race times up faster. Junior Brandon Bronze who has been skiing on alpine for two years said he enjoys the sport. "What I love most about the sport is the ability of being on the mountain," said Junior Brandon Bronze. Brandon's personal goal is to get to state and finish every race this year without crashing. Bronze believes that the team goal is to get to state. Senior Connor Sousa who has been skiing on alpine for four years said he loves the sport. "What I love most about the sport is the ability of going fast down the mountain," said Senior Connor Sousa. The Alpine team will have their first race on January 17, 2017 at Mount Shasta. The RBHS's wrestling team practicing their moves and positions against their own teammates. Gabriel Hale Sports Editor Gabriel Hale Sports Editor This years JV Boys basketball team began the season off with a rocky start losing their first game on December second. However, they've been practicing everyday working on drills, a variety of plays and playing a number of scrimmages to avoid further losses in the future. In hopes of improving their stamina, speed, and skill level, they have been giving it their all during both practice sessions and games. James Harris, sophomore, stated, "We go over games a lot and run a lot of drills, we also scrimmage a lot." However, they also know having a background in the sport helps with that. Adam Dimaggio, sophomore, has been playing since fifth grade and having that background knowledge and familiarity with the game helps with thinking outside the box a bit Dimaggio isn't the only one who has a background in basketball. Coach Armstrong has been able to help his team with their form and a variety of other aspects of the sport with his extra knowledge of the game. Including, "new drills" as stated by Dimaggio. Harris stated, "I want it to go well and win a lot. I hope we grow as a team so we can play varsity." This years junior varsity boys basketball team has been working hard and have great plans for this season. The coach and players hope to form great bonds this year and create a second family together, they know the closer they are the more often they'll be on the same page and make this season a success. What team do you think is going to win the Holiday Classic and why? partan ound S off The 2016-2017 Red Bluff High School's girls junior varsity basketball team have been performing really well with a record 4-0 achieving an undefeated title. Sophomore Kennady Sandow who has been playing basketball for six years said she plays the position post. "Our team goal for the season is to be undefeated and keep playing as a team," said Sophomore Kennady Sandow. Sandow says that her personal goal is nothing because she believes that the team plays as one and there is not just one separate player on the team. What Kennady loves most about basketball is the fun she haves being and playing with her team. Sophomore Sydney Sinclair who has been playing basketball for seven years said she plays the position point guard. "Our team goal for the season is to be undefeated," said Sophomore Sydney Sinclair. Sinclair says that her personal goal is to be better than last year. What Sydney loves most about basketball is the ability of getting to hang out with her team. Sophomore Kaitlyn Capps who has been playing basketball for six years said she plays the position post. "Our team goal for the season is to work together and play as a team," said Sophomore Kaitlyn Capps. Capps says that her personal goal is to improve from last year. What Kaitlyn loves most about basketball is getting to hang out with her team, a.k.a. her team. Sphomore Bailey Diggs also said that she the team bonding. The girls junior varsity basketball team will have their next game tomorrow through Saturday at Orland in a tournament.
