Page 4 December 14, 2016 Arts and Entertainment Amanda Waugh Staff Writer An entertaining and very time- consuming game. 'Archery King' 'Allied' features amazing acting I'm just going to start off with 'Allied' was an amazing movie. It came out November 9, 2016, which was right after Angelina and Brad broke up, it's main A list actors being Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. At first I thought, "Oh, this is just going to be a wannabe Mr. and Mrs. Smith, bad quality, probably a cheesy plot", but I was so wrong. Aly Smith Staff Writer 'Allied' is about two secret agents falling in love around World War 2, which you'd know if you'd seen the trailer, and from there it's just absolute chaos. There's death, gore, betrayal, and, on my part, a lot of crying. Brad Pitt, the lord of war movies, was the main attention. I mean who doesn't love Brad Pitt, even though he's almost 50 he's still attractive. The acting was absolutely amazing, I mean amazing. It felt like they were actually in love on screen, and they're feelings ripped mine out my chest. I didn't think for one second that it wasn't real. Also, the special effects, costumes, etc. were so cool. Of course it takes place in Nazi Germany, and they made the images of war so accurate and surreal. The actors even perfected a German and French accent in order to succeed in making their character seem so real, since they had to speak actual German in the film. The worst part is the death that follows at the very end that will make you go "that did not just happen", and next thing you know you're sobbing with all of your friends. However, what makes this movie so sad, is that it can sometimes be relatable. You have a man who leaves his family for war further on within the movie, and the sadness that follows; it encompasses the difficulties a soldier's family faces, and I think that's what makes this movie so absolutely stunning. At some point, I wish I could say, it shows a sacrifice no one should make, and that's when their love for each other is shown that it is real. A family is ripped apart and so is my heart. I would say this movie is a definite watch, and, if I could, I would go watch it over and over and over again, knowing I'd cry every time. Definitely take the time out of your break next week to go and see it. A stunning debut of love and betrayal. A definite watch! Ten years ago, in 2006, one of the best Christmas-themed, winter movie came out- "The Holiday." Starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law, this cute family- friendly flick is a cute rom-com that's perfect for the holiday season. This romantic and humorous film directed b y N a n c y Becca Frey Topics Editor Meyers is currently available for purchase or renting on Amazon, Youtube, Vudu, and more. Although it is somewhat expensive, it's definitely worth the money spent. I recommend watching it on amazon because it is three dollars compared to Vudu which is selling it for five dollars, and youtube for a total of seven. A m a n d a , played by Diaz, and Iris, played by Winslet, are both women from o p p o s i t e sides of the world who are both miserable with the idea of love. Iris is pining over someone she can't have, and Amanda has just broken up with someone who cheated on her. Each hoping to get away from their respective cities for the holidays, they meet online and decide to switch houses- and lives- for Christmas. City-girl Amanda finds herself in cold, isolate England, basically in the middle of nowhere. Iris, small town girl, finds herself in a luxurious house in warm, sunny Los Angeles. The two girls, however, can't escape men and the idea of love in their lives- Iris finds a lovable dorky film composer, Miles (played by Jack Black), and Amanda finds the brother of Iris, compassionate single-dad Graham (played by Jude Law). Both girls have their own a d v e n t u r e s and mishaps in their s w a p p e d cities, until they meet and celebrate the holidays together in a make-shift family they created. Each character at the end of the film find that sometimes you deserve more than what you're given. This feel-good movie is full of laughs and tears, and could even become a Christmas tradition in your household (like it has in mine). It seems as though it'd be a cliche, cheesy movie, done about a hundred times before, but "The Holiday" is unique and heartfelt. Watching this movie gets me into a great C h r i s t m a s m o o d , and in a cheery attitude from the cute storyline the film tells. Jack Black is his usual funny self in this flick, and both Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz are cute and eccentric. Jude Law is quite attractive in his quirky and flirty nature. This is a kind of movie that makes you want to curl up in blankets, grab some hot chocolate, and laugh with your closest friends or beloved family members. The performances by the actors and the natural dialogue combines together into a one-of-a-kind film. I recommend you watch this with your family if you're looking for a cute holiday movie. A cute and feel-good Christmas movie perfect for the holidays! 'Poison Princess' by Kresley Cole takes a turn for the unexpected instantly catching the attention of the reader as it delves into a post apocalyptic environment of kill or be killed. Evie Greene grew up learning about tarot cards from her grandmother but never expected that her grandmother was preparing her to recognize those cards as people. She soon finds out that she is just one of the cards of the deck, Empress, and she is the one who is able to conquer death. She could never have imagined that all those visions given to her by Matthew, who was another Arcana called The Fool's Card, would of actually came true. After being separated from her grand- mother at the age of eight, her m o t h e r then proc- eeded to brain-wash her and keep her in a mental health institute for the summer before her junior year. Scared and confused Evie returns to school desperate to control visions and avoid her soon to be protector Jack. Jack begins to play a big role in the books as he decidedly helps Evie survive the monsters of the apocalypse and find the other Arcana people. Throughout the story it's important to keep in mind that Evie is n a r r a t i n g the story to another s h i f t y c h a r a c t e r w h o s e intent is to drug her and keep her locked in his dungeon full of test subjects. After a while of Jack and Evie saving Arcana, Evie becomes enlightened while watching the others embrace their skills and fight militia and decides to experiment on her own powers. This book was absolutely amazing, I read it in two days and honestly can't wait to finish the series! There is so many questions unanswered and an unexpected plot. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and more of a supernatural apocalypse. Poison Princess was an amazing book that was hard to put down. Do you have a bunch of spare time to waste on playing these games? No? Me neither. But this new game 'Archery King' makes wasting time more fun than ever. 'Archery King' is a strategic game that is both simple and complex at the same time. There are so many ways to use this app. My favorite section is the online section. The online section has multiple different competitions with different wagers. The particular one I usually join is the $1,000 prize one. You bid $500, and so does your randomly selected competitor. There are three rounds involved, and the goal is to acquire the highest score. The highest score you could achieve is 60, although that is a very hard thing to do. You only have one shot each per round, but you aim the arrow as best as you can and release. So far it sounds simple, but it gets a little more complicated than that. The next round is more difficult than the first. In the next two rounds there is a change in wind by miles per hour. The direction and amount of wind affects where you release the arrow. The highest wind I've witnessed while playing was around 4, which affected it a lot. Usually during the second round the wind is around 2 mph, but at the third round it's around 3 mph. This game contains very realistic features and can be very time consuming as well as entertaining. This app also includes a shopping section where you can buy better bows for more accurate shooting. I have so far only bought one bow so I have a total amount of two. I recommend this game unless you have no free time to spare. The timing might not be the best for an app like this with finals coming up, but this would be a great game for during Christmas break. delights gamers 'The Holiday' displays Christmas vibes with a cute, cheery, and unique storyline Kourtney Sanders A & E Editor Must Watch Christmas Movies:
