smart enough for this, so I won't even try and I'll just let myself fail. How bad will it affect my grade anyways?' You have to have a positive outlook and remember that your studying will pay off and those finals aren't as big as you make them out to be. Don't overwork and overstress yourself; balance your workload and take the time to make sure you understand every subject so you can walk into your next class and feel prepared. Finish this semester with a bang and go into break thankful that you studied and did the homework for your finals. Amanda Waugh Cartoonist Aly Smith Staff Writer Lack of fuel endangered soccer team Homework prepares the students for final exams A s the time rolls around again for finals, the massive homework load that comes with this time of the year is starting to pile up. With all seven periods throwing essays and study guides at you left and right, it may seem like you're drowning; you are not. It may seem difficult, yet I believe that the homework truly helps you study and prepare for your final exams. As a college- ready student, you have to have a work ethic, time management, and organizational skills. You must manage your time wisely and be able to carry a heavy homework load along with an after school job, sports or possibly younger siblings. Sometimes, it will require spending hours at a time sitting and trying to figure out the harder problems. Some of the teachers here stay after school Portfolios stress seniors T his year is the year, for every Senior to rejoice, for the four years of drama and mental breakdowns are almost over. The stress of college applications is over now since they ended a little over a week ago, and you'd think it would be smooth sailing from here. No, it's not. There's these things called Senior portfolios. I get the whole "can't miss this many days or else you won't walk", but really? It consists of a poorly written cover letter, a resume we probably won't use, an essay on community service about how meaningful it is (everyone knows every senior is lying), and two letters of recommendation that no teacher wants to write. I think this is a bad attempt to make the seniors think we're actually prepared for the real world when in all reality we know we're not. It's like they were thinking "Oh, you're already stressed? Well, here's something else for you to cry about. You're welcome." I can spend the time I'm putting into this useless binder into sleeping since my already seven hours worth of homework kept me up until three A.M. The only thing these binders will be good for is banging it on my head out of exasperation when I look inside at its contents. Our will and motivation has been stretched too far! I say let us join together as one, and protest this foolery! "...they are likely just as stressed out as you are." student is nominated for that Court, they may not be nominated the following year unless that following year is their senior year. To us, this is a sound solution because then it gives the other students the opportunity to have the experience of being nominated for Spirit Court. There aren't many who receive this chance. It only happens once per year and there are only four chances throughout our high school careers to be nominated for this. As a staff, The Bluffer promotes diversity, variety and differing opinions not just in the classroom but also in the community. We believe that while these students and teachers are worthy of their nominations to the Spirit Court, there are many more who go unnamed and don't receive this opportunity to express their holiday spirit. Without offering a solution like the Princess nominations, the voting process would be little more than an online popularity contest. Staff Editorial Spirit Court becomes popularity contest... Holiday Classic, arguably one of Red Bluff High's favorite times of every school year, is upon us once again. As staff members and students at RBHS, we enjoy indulging ourselves in the festivities surrounding the campus to celebrate the holidays before our dreaded week of finals. There is the dress-up days, the rally, the lunch activities, the wrestling tournament, the soccer games and of course the basketball tournament. Oh, and the Spirit Court, too. Despite all the cheer going around the school, as a staff we have one qualm about our current voting process for the Spirit Court. The same students for the last several years have always been voted into the Court and it rarely changes. There are many repeats of the nominees over the years. This does not allow the opportunity to have change. A suggestion given to us by one of our staff members was to institute the rule that goes with being a Homecoming Princess. If a e following corrections are for the story, RBHS initiates new rodeo club: 1. e rodeo club is not a RBHS sponsored club and is limited to District 1 CHSRA Members. 2. Member must maintain a 2.0 GPA. 3. RBHS does not excuse absences for events. 4. e January rodeo will be in Red Bluff, not Oakdale as reported. O n November 28, a plane headed for Medellin, Columbia suddenly took a turn for the worst as it crashed killing 71 out of 77 passengers. It was carrying the Brazilian Football team, Chaperones, and out of all the players only Alan Luciano Ruschel, Marcos Danilo Padilha and Jakson Ragnar Follmann survived the initial crash, however, Danilo who was in critical condition didn't survive the aftermath. On the club's Facebook page it was reported before the number of casualties given by the police that, "Given the conflicting reports emerging from different journalistic sources concerning the crash, the Chaperones football association through its vice-president, Ivan Tozzo, is refraining from comment and awaiting official announcements from the Colombian air authorities. May God be with our athletes, leaders, journalists and the other guests who are with the delegation." Many around the world take a moment of silence for the fallen warriors and many news accounts have been posting admirable videos and photos celebrating the fallen team's past victories so that people will remember that image of them. The families have asked politely that the media not bother them about their recent tragedy until a later date so that they can mourn their losses peacefully. Investigators have been checking reporting about the airplane referred to as Flight 2933, and have concluded that either they ran out of fuel, turbulence, or electrical failure which had been reported by the pilot. There was no explosion when the plane crash which allowed survivors. This allows the story of lack of fuel to be believable. Honestly I couldn't imagine what the families are going through and I pray for the families to receive answers that they desperately need, and to find closure. I hope for not only closure for the families but the devoted fans as well. to help kids and there are many tutoring options; I bet that if you were to ask your teacher about a topic you are struggling on, they would be more than happy to help you. Although it may seem like they don't care about you, remember that they are busy too and trying to plan out the rest of the semester and put together a final for you, so they are likely just as stressed out as you are. Taking the time to try your hardest on study guides is actually helping you to study while doing homework. The more problems you repeat, the more it gets drilled into your brain and the faster you can remember it. You can't go into finals thinking, 'Oh jeez, I'm not The seniors are frustrated doing the portfolios assigned to them earlier this year. Bluffer/Brianna Tackmier
