The city made international headlines amid the rioting in Sherman Park, and the rash of carjacking-inspired vehicle thefts — a scenario Police Chief Ed Flynn said has largely been unique to Milwaukee — remained a prevalent problem throughout much of the year. But when 2016 came to a close, crime in a number of major cate- gories was down slightly in year- over-year comparisons, according to numbers officials within the Milwaukee Police Department shared with The Post.
