INVITED Celine Dion PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY DENISE TRUSCELLO A GRAND AFFAIR CELINE DION CELEBRATES 1,000 SHOWS AT THE COLOSSEUM AT CAESARS PALACE. In front of a packed house at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, an irrepressible Celine Dion joked with a crowd of 4,200 fans, "One thousand shows? I don't feel that old!" Her 1,000th show at Caesars on Saturday, October 8, began with a spirited retrospective of the last 13 years in pictures. Her 90-minute show was full of personal reminiscences, from being the performing last child of a family of 14 children, to warm and sometimes lighthearted tributes to her husband René Angélil, who passed away in January. "He's here tonight with us, I'm pretty sure," she said to the cheering audience. During a scat version of Ella Fitzgerald's "(If You Can't Sing It) You'll Have to Swing It," she dangled a long stem from the slit of her evening gown and winked, "That was for René." Through seven standing ovations, she flew through a range of favorites, from "All By Myself" to "My Heart Will Go On" (enveloped in a now-iconic curtain of rain), and thrilled the audience with Prince's "Purple Rain," as well as "Recovering"—a gift from the singer Pink. Don't worry that Vegas's famous songbird will hang it up anytime soon; she's announced her 2017 dates—and capped off her show with Queen's "The Show Must Go On." VEGASMAGAZINE.COM 39
