PHOTOGRAPHY BY JUSTIN HARRISON He may rule his kitchens (and television!) with an iron hand, but Gordon Ramsay was all smiles at our editor-publisher dinner in honor of his cover on our Men's Issue; Ramsay posed with all his fans at our intimate dinner. Shown here with Ramsay and me: Darcy Barajas, Shahn Douglas, Veronica Kistner, and Julie Cane. BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS LETTER, one of the biggest mysteries of our year might have been solved: What to call our new NHL team? Plus, will the Oakland Raiders move to a stadium that the Nevada Legislature approved to house NFL? We'll find out about that too. Meanwhile, while there have been significant changes in UFC after its sale to WME-IMG, its Las Vegas HQ continues to grow UFC into the mainstream and massively popular sport it now is. But all the news isn't on the sports front. Green Valley Ranch cel- ebrates 15 years of luxury in Vegas by doing a grand renovation; there are exciting new dining venues opening in Cosmopolitan, Venetian, MGM Grand—and elsewhere on and off the Strip. What does all this change mean? In short, we're diversifying our city from a Strip-focused, gaming-centric tourist destination (which, don't get us wrong, is still our bread and butter) to a real hometown destina- tion. As the NHL approved our expansion franchise, perhaps hockey investor Daniel Negreanu (who also happens to be the number-one-earning player in pro poker) said it best in an interview with Vegas: "Las Vegas is basically a city of displaced souls, and this will bring us together." As our city diversifies, Vegas magazine is also switching things up to reflect the speed of these changes. We're putting more and more original content online, giving you more insider access, and inviting you to be part of our hometown community. We can't wait to share the year ahead.
