That apprenticeship would change the course of luxury luggage for generations to come. Opening his own shop in 1854, Vuitton began creating his trunks in hard-wearing, weatherproof canvas, offering special order and personalization services to his clients—a service that customers will find in the newest Louis Vuitton store, in Palazzo.
