S t. Elizabeth Community Hospital celebrates 6 years in a row of Top 100 ranking Traditionally, businesses known for their quality enjoy high customer loyalty and satisfaction. In this day and age of health care reform, high quality performance is multi dimensional providing a landscape of patient trust and loyalty while securing a horizon of pay for performance from the recently implemented Federal Value-Based Purchasing, also referred to as Pay for Performance. True to the St. Elizabeth patient-family centered care culture, our quality care and patient safety go hand in hand. Recently this ongoing focus was acknowledged and rewarded for a sixth year in a row. Quality pays in more ways than one. I am thrilled that St. Elizabeth Community Hospital has been selected for the sixth consecutive year as a Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success Award. St. Elizabeth has achieved this national benchmark score for hospital-wide performance compared with other hospitals across the nation, and is the only hospital in California that has been awarded this distinction six years in a row. St. Elizabeth is one of two Dignity Health hospitals to be selected for this award this year. Our senior management team is proud of this distinction and recognizes our employees, medical staff and volunteers for making this achievement possible. The winners were identified through an in-depth analysis, the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks for Success, 2012. This comprehensive study evaluated nearly 3,000 short- term, acute care hospitals based on a composite score of 14 measures of quality, efficiency, safety and patient satisfaction. More information on this study along with other 100 Top Hospitals research is available online at www.100tophospitals.com. requirements of health care reform has made this year particularly challenging, which makes this award very special. Our entire team has been engaged and focused on the core measures and nationally reported criteria that measure the aspects of care that provide better outcomes for patients. You can reference these core measures and comparisons at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov. These measures are evidenced based and voluntarily compared to other hospitals across the country. Many multi- dimensional projects are ongoing across the hospital to constantly evaluate our performance in these areas and improve them. From transformational care projects focused on improving emergency department wait times to ensuring patients who suffer from congestive heart failure are not readmitted to the hospital for similar chronic disease ailments. This hospital team continues to remember this is not a sprint, but a marathon of continuous improvement that must be linked to quality patient outcomes. I am both humbled and honored by the stellar performance of our employees, medical staff, volunteers, and the support we receive from our community.
