BY JOHN KATSILOMETES The term flitting around Las Vegas is "Baz Buzz," and its focus is a terrifically talent-filled and inventive stage show at Venetian, Baz—Star Crossed Love, which knits together some of the most inspired storylines of writer and director Baz Luhrmann. Scenes from Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, and The Great Gatsby are reimagined for the stage, using dialogue from the films, with the segments performed by a set of four principal singers and a backing band. Impressively, the Palazzo Theater—the former home of Jersey Boys—has been renovated to the specifications of the LA- based indie creative team, For the Record. Three runways extend to the audience for a show that is immersive, aggres- sive, and uniquely chic in Vegas. For the Record Executive Producer Shane Scheel talks of the production's extensive "remodeling, reinventing, and recasting," after previous limited engagements. The timing of this show nicely coincides with a Netflix original series from the director, The Get Down; the first six episodes were released August 12, with the rest of the season to come later this year.
