Last Mother's Day she received a huge card with notes writ- ten in it. Typically as they grew older, the boys mostly wrote her handwritten let- ters. She feels appreciated when her kids do heartfelt things. Similar to most moms, she is thrilled to see her kids becoming adults and finding their own places in the world. "She taught us morals, values and to work hard. I love her and would do any- thing for her," J.J. Watt said. In a room in the house is a huge banner with pictures of the boys when they were young and as adults. In big words it reads: "We love you Mom." When asked about her advice to other moms, she said the house can get clean- er when the kids are older. She urges parents to spend quality time with their kids. "We are blessed with them, they are God's great- est gifts," Connie Watt said. For more information on the J.J. Watt Foundation, vis- itjjwfoundation.org. Email: kpilarski@conleynet.com Fresh produce and more galore By Chris Bennett Special to The Freeman OCONOMOWOC — The argument can be easily made that Oconomowoc is Lake Country's epicenter of all things related to farmers markets. The com- munity supports three markets with offerings year-round, and even expanded them within the past year. Oconomowoc offers a farmers market every Sat- urday mor ning — the Oconomowoc Summer Far mers Market, from May to October. The Summer Far mers Market runs from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Saturday at the South Municipal Parking Lot, behind 175 E. Wisconsin Ave. The mar- ket will run this year until October 29. The city also supports the Oconomowoc Winter Far mers Market, which will run from November of this year to March 2017. The Winter Farmers Mar- ket is scheduled to be locat- ed at Oconomowoc Land- scape Supply & Garden Center at N68-W37850 Highway K. More information will be available about the Winter Far mers Market in late summer or early fall. Two did not appear to be enough, and last summer the Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce added anoth- er market to its lineup. The second annual Mid- week Market Place emerges every Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. on the Village Green at the cor ner of Main Street and Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Oconomowoc. The Mid- week Market Place starts July 13 and continues through August 31. "A number of our patrons and our vendors expressed an interest in having a midweek market, saying there wasn't really one in the immediate area," JoEllen Stear ns said. Stearns is an events specialist with the Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce, and is respon- sible for the markets. "People tend to stay close to home and not venture as far during the week because of the work sched- ule and everything else," she said. Last summer's seven- week-long pilot of the mid- week market met with suf- ficient success to extend it to this summer. The mid- week market is also an opportunity for home- based businesses, direct sellers, artists and other chamber members to par- ticipate in a public market. "We have man hours devoted every week to the organization and manage- ment of the markets," Stearns said. "We have a dedicated person on staff that concentrates on farm- ers markets and their suc- cess." Other Waukesha County markets Delafield and Pewaukee also offer farmers markets in the summer months. The Delafield Far mers Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday from May through October. The market continues through October 24. The Delafield Farmers Market is located at 421 Main St. and High- way C in Delafield, which is the parking lot next to the Delafield Chamber of Commerce. Pewaukee's Far mers Market is held each Wednesday from 3:30-7 p.m. in the parking lot of Spring Creek Church, N35- W22000 Capitol Drive in the City of Pewaukee. The communities of Dousman and Sussex, which are within easy driving distance of much of Lake Country, also hold farmers markets. Dousman's is from 2-6 p.m. every Wednesday through Oct. 19 in the St. Mary's Church parking lot at the corner of Highways 83 and 67. The Sussex Far mers Market is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Sunday. The market started June 5 and continues through Oct. 16, and is at Armory Park in Sussex. Waukesha's Far mers Market is in its 17th sea- son, and is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. The market continues through October 19. The market takes place at 313 Bank St. in downtown Waukesha. The website of the Wis- consin Far mers Market Association — www.wifarmersmarkets.or g — includes more infor- mation about farmers mar- kets and how to properly choose and store fruits and vegetables. The site also includes a locator for farmers markets in each county throughout the state.
