not have been possible summer 2012 ...without whom this issue would alexis contant I mmersed in the world of luxury brands for more than 20 years, Alexis Contant is passionate about home design and has held senior executive positions at the Boston Design Center, Architectural Digest, and the French textile firm Manuel Canovas. She recently moved back to Newton with her husband, daughter, and two Australian shepherds. What's your next project? I want to design our back garden to respect- fully frame a few stunning Janus et Cie pieces I've been coveting. Favorite design purchase of all time: Hiring architect David Hacin for our house in Newton. In this issue: Contant discusses botanical design trends in "Wildly Unusual" (page 128). neil rodgers S even years ago fashion stylist Neil Rodgers moved to Los Angeles from London, where he worked for Britain's Arena magazine as a contributing editor. Recently he has styled Gisele Bündchen, Gerard Butler, and the new Spiderman, Andrew Garfield. He lives in Los Angeles with his two dogs. In this issue: Rodgers styled our cover star, Anna Kendrick (page 96). What was your favorite look from the cover shoot? The red Oscar de la Renta gown. It was a great color against Anna's skin. What is your summer fashion essential? Ray-Ban Wayfarers! melissa mahoney T he Somerville native started shooting pictures at age 16 and hasn't looked back. Today she is based in Boston and Los Angeles and has traveled with Aerosmith to photograph their 2007 tour. When she's not capturing celebrities, Mahoney donates her time and talent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She lives on the South Shore with her husband and her two boys, Dutch and Boone. Beauty to me... is confidence. What portrait takes your breath away? Annie Leibovitz's portrait of John Lennon naked, holding his wife, Yoko Ono. There wasn't a huge budget or set, and the image shows the power of photography. That was the last photo taken of him, as he died hours later. In this issue: Melissa photographed the women in "Real Boston Beauties" (page 104). 32 bostoncommon-magazine.com ward-winning journalist for The Boston Globe Magazine, Washingtonian, The Huffington Post, and Whole Living, among other publications, Brooke Lea Foster authored two books: The Way They Were: Dealing with Your Parents' Divorce After a Lifetime of Marriage and (with coauthor brooke lea foster A Neil Bernstein) There When He Needs You. In this issue: Foster penned a feature exploring some of the most storied homes on the luxury market (page 112). What surprised you while researching this feature? I didn't realize how much updating these large estates need. Some seem like they're straight from another era. Pool or beach? I'm beyond thrilled to sit for hours on the beach, with my two-year-old digging at my feet. photography by eve prime/poppy studio (foster)
